Here is Frangipani’s 26 things that were listed for the first version in 2003…check it out to get a bit of an idea of what the deal is…Keep in mind i am not talented like Martine at Frangipani..but i will give it ago.

So many people seem to be getting pregnant around me lately, and all i seem to see everyone is pregnant people and with Annie’s recent engagement i suppose friend’s back home will start popping out children soon too so it has gotten me thinking about what i would do if i had a baby. (NOTE TO EVERYONE….ESPECIALLY MUM…I AM NOT PREGNANT AND I HAVE NO PLANS OF BECOMING SO ANY TIME SOON) I mean if Shumpei and i were to have a baby, we would have to name it…and i quite like Japanese names, so i have been thinking of names that are easy to pronounce but still Japanese…There is so many things to think of though, it can’t sound weird in English, or sound like something else in English because i wouldn’t want the poor little thing to be teased ( My father vetoed my mothers suggestion of the name Ashley for me because it was a boys name as well as a girls name and he didn’t want me to be teased in school for having a boys name….) Also i work with a lot of children that are of mixed nationalitites, mainly half Japanese and American or Australian and it is intresting to see some of the names that the children have…I often think when i hear a name for the first time…”Oh that is cute”….

So some of the names i had come up with for boys (There are some non Japanese names in the list also) are Kai, Kenji, Jack, Sho, yuki, Taichi and Hiro(shi). Some of the girls names are aya ( meaning colourful), hana, mia, sakura, mai, Misaki, kaiya, ana, yuri (meaning lily), mika, ai(ko), emi, maiya and yuki.

Or maybe it really isn’t something you can decide ( or think too much about) before you see the baby for the first time…. It might pop out and look nothing like a Kai or a Aya i suppose….

What have people called their children? Or what are you planning on calling future children?

In Australia in 2005 the most popular girls name was Olivia and the boys name was Jack while in Japan in 2002 (the most recent statistics i could find) the names were Shun for a boy and Misaki for a girl…Some of the names i mentioned above made it into the top 10’s…
