Had a fairly quite weekend, would of posted more, except i didn’t want to bore my small selection of readers! Before i forget, happy birthday to Mum, i am glad you had a great day today!
There is a new shop on the block, a “99 Ichiba” Not to be confused with a 99 shop…When the conbini (Convenience store) across the road disappeared almost 6 weeks ago, i was disappointed because it meant an extra 25 second walk to the next closest one and after it taking less than 30 seconds from my apartment on the second floor to the previous conbini, to double the journey, well it just wasn’t as convenient anymore now was it…
So almost 2 weeks ago when they started refurbishing the shop getting it ready for the “ichiba” I was delighted. Plus it was going to be 24 hours, just like a conbini, meaning that at 4am when i want icecream, bread, lemon c, or even potatoes, i wouldn’t have to go far. Well Friday was the big opening…So far i like it OK, cheap fruit and veggies which is good…But i thought everything would be 99 yen (roughly $1.20 Australian i think) yet that doesn’t seem to be the case as some stuff has some strange prices…like 249yen or 399 yen…But basically most things are 99 yen and that is the main thing.
After living in Capalaba/Sheldon for almost 13 years, where you had to drive at least 5-10 minutes to shops to buy even the simplest things like bread, milk, booze and MacDonald’s, I am glad to say that i can get all of those things after less than a minutes walk. Even the train station is only about 3 minutes away…
Hope i don’t get too lazy!

What a quaint little local shop for you!! Definitely beats Capalaba Park/Central!
hehe.
Do they sell alcohol at the ichiba? Is wine very big in Japan? (Hehe I sound like the Spanish Inquisition!)
On ‘The Amazing Race’ (American reality show that involves couples racing around the world) they went to Japan last week and visited Shibuya and Hachiko! AND they went to the theme park at the bottom of Mount Fuji! I must insist on visiting there when I come to Japan! But yeah, I can’t wait to visit. OH and I wanna see the largest pedestrian crossing in the world in Shibuya! That looked fantastic! Ahh, I’ve got the travel bug at the moment…but stuck here in boring Brisbane!
Meanwhile, I better stop this incoherent post before it gets more muddled. Hope you are feeling better Laura and the drugs are doin’ their thang!
Love from home, Mandy oxo
Hey Mandy
hehe, the ichiba does not sell alcohol but the AMPM which is another 25 seconds down the road sells booze. For wine though i tend to go to the supermarket since they stock aussie stuff and the supermarket is approximately a 80 second walk away..( I timed it when i went out for research purposes)
Hachiko, shibuya crossing and the themepark at the bottom of mt fuji (fuji qyu highland) are are highlights i can show you! I see the Shibuya crossing and Hachiko a couple times a week BUT i have only been to Fuji Qyu once before and it was awhile ago, so definitely up for giving that another go…It has the best haunted house…but i hated it. HAHA!
Hope all is well, take care and enjoy your winter break which is coming up! I will be coming back to Australia in August for a week or so, see you then!
Hello! I’m another Brisbane girl who loves Tokyo and everything about Japan. I live in the western suberbs of brisbane I don’t drive so it takes me ages to get anywhere, I feel so isolated, that’s why I always laughed when my friends called Higashi Koganei the “inaka”. Love your blog!. Hope I can get one started one day. We should start a ring of Brisbane Girls blogging in Tokyo! (if there’s not already). I saw the amazing race too! made me homesick!.
