Counting sheep…
Last night i couldn’t sleep, and because i couldn’t sleep i didn’t want Shumpei to sleep, because then not only would i not be able to sleep i would also be bored due to lack of conversation.
So first to keep Shun awake, i counted sheep. How did that keep him awake you might ask? Well i counted them out loud in Japanese….he beleives that if i had done it in English then he definitely would of gone to sleep. Even watching movies without Japanese subtitles puts him to sleep…nothing like the english language to make people drowsy.
Then out of no where he asks, how come in Europe the kiss people on both cheeks when saying hello? I said it was just a custom i suppose, like in Japan when the bow. I then went on to say in some places they kiss three times, especially if it is a boy to a girl (this is correct right? I haven’t gotten this mixed up. I am just an Aussie after all…we usually just pull out a g’day mate) He thought about this for a bit and he said (translated for easier understanding) “How annoying! I don’t think i could be bothered” It is strange, cos i don’t think of bowing in that way. I mean i nod my head at taxis that stop for me, police men, Japanese people i know…sure i don’t always do a full bow cos i can’t be bothered but still…..
Then somehow we got onto the subject of eating meat/fish. We spoke about eating dog, and how if we visit Vietnam we won’t try it. Also about fish in Japan with heads, i can’t usually eat it if i can see the eyes while he thinks it is perfectly normal to dig into something that is staring at him. (Don’t get me started on actually EATING the heads of animals….prawns anyone?)
Most nights Shumpei and i seem to have the most randomest (is that a word?) conversations before we go to sleep. Usually the light is out, and i will start talking, mainly out of boredom, (and cos it really is getting too hot to sleep at night here without the cooler on. Then if you put the cooler on you get cold and need the duvet…Bit of a catch 22.) and this is the sort of stuff we talk about. It goes from one topic to the next…from counting sheep in other languages to eating dog to European kissing styles. Is there some kind of subliminal message hidden in our conversation patterns i wonder ??

hey no stress about the mould - ours WAS in our downstairs room which is on the basement level so its probably due to moisture getting caught between the floor/wall and furniture - we have never had it any other year ??? weird very weird!
we are convinced it will be ready and waiting to greet us at the door when we get back from euro - our plan…buy up big on those moisture soaker thingies - dont know what they are called in japanese we call them camels back home…
It was a freakin hideous experience though - I thought mould was for dirty people, what a snob I am - I now know mould does not discriminate, it knows no boundries!
Lets band together in the fight against mould!
Sweet dreams
