Last night, after a day out in Harajuku with Hiro, James, Catherine & Shumpei, we went with James to see his friend play jazz trumpet in a bar in Saitama. I have met Chris several times now and seen him play twice and he is truly amazing. Last night he was there with a piano, drums & double base players and after their set they allowed others to come up and jam with them.
Watching others play music, especially good music always makes me regret my choice to give up playing the piano, violin & also singing. There guy on piano last night was so good. Watching him was amazing and you could see that before he hit each note he knew exactley what it was going to sound like so it didn’t matter if he was embellishing a bit. Even though i played for about 15 years i never had that kind of confidence and i certainly never came close to been half as good as he was.
Here is a video of a Chris on trumpet and another guy from the audiance on saxaphone with the rest of the band. It does not do them justice (A movie on a digi camera never could!)
I had so much to do for work this weekend and i have made my way through some of it. I am off to meet a friend for coffee & a book swap in Shibuya now but will have to do some more work when i come home.

That so happens to me as well. I see heaps of bands and always think what could have been if I just stuck to it…
I must confess, after reading Harajuku the rest of the entry was lost on me.
I imagine if I ever went to Japan I might never leave…
Friends in bands are cool, I am entirely useless in the musical department but I very much admire people who are. One of my friends in the a band touring with the Butterfly Effect at the moment, he’s very clever.
adam- It’s like that with a lot of things in life isn’t it. What did you used to play?
jen- You should come Jen, I love Japan and I can’t say for sure but I am not sure I will ever leave!!
