I forgot…

I forgot how easy it is to catch colds and bugs off children….It has been almost six months since I have worked with kids. Yesterday I had a bit of a sore throat in the morning but I dosed up on cold tablets, vitamin C and panadol last night thinking that would be the end of it.

Today I woke up, can hardly move my neck and head because I get dizzy and it aches. I still have a sore throat, glands are swollen and I have sore ears and a stuffy nose. I had also forgotten that when a kid has a stuffy nose and sore throat that adults end up with all of the above!!! Why is that??

The difference was, despite feeling like crap this morning, I still got up and wanted to go to work. I haven`t had that feeling in a long time….I really am enjoying my job!

I hope my immunity builds up soon. By the time I finished my last kindergarten job I had a pretty fab immunity system. Come back!!!

Ps:

When I started at the school, they had told the parents a new teacher was starting and they told their children that I was replacing the last teacher. They said my name was `Laura` but most of the kids got mixed up and thought `Dora` was coming to school. Suffice to say at first they were slightly disappointed that I wasn`t the English/Spanish speaking explorer girl named Dora but they have gradually gotten used to calling me Laura. Some of the younger children still say Dora (so does one of the mums!!) but I think it is because it is easier for them to say.

Today one of my students said ` I like Laura` and then giggled and said ` I like Laura and Dora…but I like you more` Ohhhhhhh……How cute!

  1. does this mean you have to wear a facemask to work?

  2. No! I don`t want to scare the kids!
Plus i get asthma and I think a mask would make my asthma act up!!!

What I used to do was drink vitamin C drinks everyday. Or something similar. So I have started that again. I thought it made a difference last time but who knows.

Do you ever where a mask??

My dad swears by garlic… he eats pickled garlic, garlic tablets, wants garlic in all his meals…

yeah yeah, sounds gross I know, (he doesnt smell i swear!) but i think he just might be onto something… apparently the garlic is a natural antibiotic or something…

i have no idea where i was going with that…?

ANYWAY! I hope you are feeling tops soon – have fun with the kiddies Dora, er, Laura :P

Oh god, this is something I haven’t thought of. I think I’ll be living on multi-vitamins if I’m lucky enough to get work in childcare!

  5. Urg…hope you feel better soon!

I did a charity run late last year and they had Spongebob SquarePants and Dora The Explorer there – those great big foam-suited people. Poor Dora’s head was absolutely enormous and she couldn’t keep her balance – she kept falling over. She also revealed way more foamy midriff than was really appropriate for one so young. It was really funny.

  6. I’ve spammed you with questions about Japan!

I am getting sick too ;(

Every single prac I do, I end up sick, my happy immune system does not appreaciate being plunged into the germ infested world of children.

I took Berocca, Vitamin C and fish oil during Primary prac which helped a fair bit, but everyone says in the first year of working with wee ones you’ll end up sick for atleast two thirds of the year.

P.S The Dora/Laura thing is hysterical!! Dora is a cool name though, I’d be happy to be called Dora :D

  8. how are you feeling now? are you taking multi-vitamins everyday?

ha, no i would never wear a mask. i figure if i’m that contagious i shouldn’t be out in public. i bought a couple a few months back as a joke, so will prob pop a photo on the blog wearing it as it is just bizarre to me.

  9. Hope you’re feeling better by now :)

I swear by the combination fruit juices. It always seems to get me through. I’m in agreeance with Deb’s dad – garlic, as well as horseradish, help.
