Seahorse…

I couldn`t remember the English word for seahorse today…I think I have been in Japan too long.

I can also never remember the word renovate. That word eludes me all the time…Although I can`t remember the Japanese word for that either!

Is it normal to forget words from your native language?

I thought I would finally comment on your blog. Ummmmm we went to school together! I believe you were one or two grades below me. I saw your blog a while ago and couldn’t work out why you look so familiar…and there is the reason. However, I don’t think we ever spoke or had anything to do with each other..still, small world.
I forget english words all the time, and I have never lived overseas or learnt another language…so you are one step above me.

I forget english words too but I always attribute that to destroying my brain through internet obsession.

GAH renovate, the word that has been erased from my brain by the inferior ‘renewal’. For the life of me I could not remember the word renovation last week. Gah.

I think, yes. I put English words into the German sentence structure all the time now. Makes me sound like Yoda. “I want the delicious chocolate bar to eat.”

I think it’s fairly normal, it’s not like you often use the word seahorse in day to day conversation :)

I guess if you use one language more than another (and you don’t hear your first language in day to day life as often) that you are bound to forget a few words here and there.

P.S That book is beautiful! I haven’t read that one though, Eric Carle did the Very Hungry Catterpillar, didn’t he?

I’d don’t know about D’Jen, but I use the word ’seahorse’ every day. Totally! Seahorse. See!! heh

Do you dream in japanese much?

Yep! that used to happen to my friends and I when we were in Japan. We just weren’t using & hearing as much English anymore, so of course it’s only natural to forget the words you don’t use much. That looks like an awesome book!.

Kate- I looked at your photo and I donn`t remember meeting or seeing you. Have you changed much since highschool? I forget English and japanese words all the time. It is terrible.

Audrey- I have destroyed my brain through booze.

Sigsy- I always forget it. Must be a common word to forget then huh?

Jess- hehe…yoda. I use english words in Japanese sentences a lot…cos I don`t know the japanese words but while my japanese is better than most japanese people`s english grammar my vocab is shit. I wish I had a chocolate bar to eat now.

Jen- I forget words like that all the time. it is shocking. Eric Carle did indeed do the hungary cattipillar. I have read about 10 of his books, in school etc, but I have not yet read them all.

Enny- party was awesome. Will write about that eventually….probably.

Deb~ I dream about half half I think. Although in my dreams japanese friends sometimes speak english and vice versa. But the dreams on av erage are half half. I will be using seahorse everyday from now on so that I won`t forget!

Katie- I was hoping you`d comment and put me at ease!! The book is good. So is `Papa, draw me a staw` by eric carle. He has a lot of good books. The artwork is always awesome!
