Housework…

Our apartment is a mess. I am not much of a housekeeper….Shumpei and I always clean the place together on Sunday afternoons…we spend about an hour doing it and that it is. Problem is it is in dire need of a HUGE clean-up. But instead of doing it I am blogging about it instead. I was going to take a photo but am just too embarrassed (plus my mother would kill me if she saw the state it was in!)

I had a list of things I wanted to do this weekend…there were 15 things on the list and I have only done 2 of them….Most of them were to do with cleaning the apartment. I thought if I wrote them down then maybe they would happen….I guess it doesn`t work that way!

Is housekeeping something you learn? Or do you have to be born good at it. I am a relatively clean person…I always kept my room fairly tidy in Australia and even our old apartment was pretty clean most of the time because it was so tiny…and easy to clean.

I am hoping with age my house keeping skills will get better….I keep telling myself it is ok because I work and when I come home I still cook dinner and sometimes (not very often ) will put a load of washing on.

How do you keep on top of the mess? Do you clean every day? Is it something you have gotten better at with age? Better yet do you know a cheap cleaner that will come and clean my apartment for me?

I hope so…

Am off to surf the internet before I hang out the second load of washing (Even though the fridge is calling my name to be cleaned as is the bathroom!)

I’ve been wishing that I had a cleaner too! I feel much better when my house is clean and tidy. I mopped the floors and tidied the lounge today…oh and I did the bathroom too..and I washed up..No wonder I feel so tired. I think it depends on a number of factors. I think it helps if you do a little bit regularly. But you’re right it is hard when you work full-time and then have to come home and cook dinner.

  4. I used to be the same..i have improved with age, i’ll admit…having kids got me into gear, but they’re grown now..
there’s only the 2 of us…by the time i go to work the bed is made, dishes are in the dishwasher and a broom has been run over the floor…once a week “we” vaccum, dust, wash, strip the bed, all those things..
having said that, i’ll admit since getting involved with the forums i’ve been decidedly slack! hubby is great though…he just smiles and cooks dinner, or puts some washing in, whatever needs doing…don’t worry too much about it…if you sweat the little things it doesn’t leave enough energy for the important things…like blogging for instance! :-)

  5. I have a cleaner come in once a week. I’m just too freakin lazy!

  6. Jo- My problem is I can see the mess and while it worries me I think I have better things to do!

And I have friends over a lot now that our apartment is bigger…(I used to have people over a lot at the last place too…Somtimes there would be six people sleeping on the floor!)

I am trying to make an effort to do things done during the week this week. One chore a day perhaps!

Enny- My `hun` is good, but not as good as your `hun`! Shumpei will do something if I ask him too but does not see mess at all. He is terrible too about leaving rubbish on the counter or table….How hard is it to put a chips packet in the bin which is 1 metre away?!?!

We kind of do have set chores that each of us do though!

Katie- I wish my apartment was as clean as you house sounds now! I am jealous. Want to come live with me and Shumpei and clean our place? I will charge you only 30,000 month rent plus you can clean (That included electricytiy, gas and water!) Deal?

Robert- I envy you! Thanks for commenting!

anonymum- I am hoping I improve with age, as you say you did. I think that the internet has drawn me in so much. Plus there is no central heating so the kitchen/dining/bathroom areas which need the most work do not have heaters so it is so cold in those rooms! Which is why I put it off!

I like cooking, and am good at it I think, so at least that is one plus! Lucky for Shun I am good at one or the other ( His mum is a better cleaner but not such a great cook…So he tells me, although I always think her food tastes awesome!) They say you usually have one of the other?!

Steph- my birthday is coming up can you send me your house keeper??? Please? Pretty please?

I rather like cleaning. Occasionally mess will take over, usually exam time, but most of the time I keep everything neat. I like to do one job (vacuum, clean the bathroom, dust, etc) each day and not necessarily have a cleaning day each week. That way it takes like 20 minutes, if that, a day and then you don’t have to waste your weekends on cleaning when you could do fun stuff.

  8. I hear you!!! R keeps asking me when I am going to clean the toliet room after I made him painstakingly pull all of the hair and gunk out of our bath/shower drain.. I hate things to be dirty but I don’t like cleaning either, hes much much more clean than I am.

Anyways good luck with your other 13 chores! Give yourself a small reward or encouragement for getting a certain number done! Sometimes that works for me :)
