I had my dress made by a lovely Japanese lady in Toyko, I knew what I wanted and knew I wouldn't find it here, so I did the fabric shopping with her and she made a beautiful dress based on my dodgy sketches.
If you want her number let me know and I will try and did it out.

Oh my gosh, I totally understand what you mean - I felt so out of place in nearly all the bridal shops I went to. The place where I finally ended up getting my dress, the staff are still pretty snooty - but they are kind as well. I was thinking about getting my wedding dress made as well - but like you, I had no idea what I really wanted... so I was lucky when I fell in love with 'my' dress as soon as I saw it! Maybe if you keep looking the same will happen to you? But as Suzy said, maybe you should also look into some non bridal shops?? Even if it just to find a style you like? And if what Katie said is true - maybe you should take a trip out to Logan?? Because wow... I would have saved $1300... But then, I wouldn't change my dress for the world :P

Only 2 weeks and 6 days till our wedding... YIKES!

A lady at work told me the same thing..she said some wedding dress shop assistants were so rude! Yes, getting it made might be a good idea, but you have to find somebody good..who will listen to what you want and be able to make it. I agree with Suzy a champagne or pearly colour might suit your complexion better. Great idea about checking out some other styles of dresses too..as soon as you add the word wedding the price does go up. Have you thought about what colour your hair will be and what style you'll wear it for the wedding ?that's something to think about at the same time. You should also try some shops that are not in the city..I think my sister got hers at Logan for $700! Bargain!

Oh, I so know what you mean - I found the same thing about wedding dress shop girls! They were really rude and didn't listen at all - I would say that I wanted something fitted and then they'd point me in the direction of a rack of meringues.
Getting the dress made is a good option, and you could try looking in non-wedding shops for a nice dress. This is extra good if you're not after a pure white dress. I got a fabulous full-length evening gown in a pale champagne colour from a boutique in London. It was gorgeous and cost a fraction of what it would have to buy a "wedding dress" from a bridal shop. I wore a veil with it, and had a bouquet, and felt sufficiently bride-ish even though it wasn't a traditional wedding dress. And my other tip is to invest in big beige undies to wear to try dresses on... not glamorous, but at least they are invisible. xxx
