Jessica- I know that us coming here for awhile is a good thing. I think it will really really help us in the future because he will understand me better. It was always the plan to come back here for awhile...I was thinking 6 months...but a year is just such a long time!!! The time is flying though by! We will be back in Japan in no time! I am glad you liked the photos!

Fujimama- I know you must! I totally know how you feel :-)

Katy- Did gaijinhusband ever live in NZ? Will you ever go live there together do you think? The grass is always greener huh? You are totally right and I will miss good coffee, my family and life in Australia once I go back to Japan- I will have reverse reverse culture shock!

Midori- It is interesting to hear your opinions on this. You don`t talk about missing Japan much and I think it is because this time you really don`t miss it because you know you did the right thing for you and little J! I hope that your trip back in October is not as stressful as you think it is going to be. Is J going with you?

What do you miss most about Japan? What did you miss from the UK when you were in Japan?

I know when i go back to Japan I will miss the support I get from my family. Especially once we decide to start a family.

Jen- You are going back soon though and I am so jealous! But hanging out next year in Japan (A WHOLE OTHER COUNTRY) will be cool!!! I am very excited for you!

Jess- I did the same with my uni after I left Japan the first time! I was so desperate to get back!!!! I am glad that Shun & I are here, and I know it will be good for us in the long run and that the fact he likes it here is a good thing because I do think that one day we might come out here to live for a longer period but I just feel as if my time in Japan is not ready to end yet. But the options are good! You are definitely right!

I remember feeling that way the first time I went back to the States after living in China. Like Midori, I wasn't married yet then, and I missed China so much that I finished up my last two semesters of university in one semester's time in order to get back here faster! There's something to be said for reverse culture shock, as I'm sure you know. I'm sure Shun will be a bit homesick by June and ready to go back, not to worry. And knowing that you have a partner who can not only survive, but also thrive, in your home-country is definitely a good thing, as it'll open up more options for you in the future, and options are always good!

I actually understand how you feel! I can't offer any kind of advice because I feel the exact same way at the moment, but I imagine you feel so much worse having lived there for much longer than 10 days :P

Just think, next year we can hang out in a whole different country, that's gonna be awesome!!

I miss it too. I am heading back for a very brief trip at the beginning of October and while it will be very stressful I SOO cannot wait to go back. Katy's comments are so true, you will always miss something about one of your homes and it can't be helped when you lead an international lifestyle. I really missed Japan the first time I moved back to the UK before I got married but this time after 4 years in Kagoshima, I didn't miss it as much initially. It has been more than a year since I was there now though and I am ready to go back for a visit. It is good that Shun loves Oz though because that way you will be able to travel back and forth between to the two over the years! ;-)

Izakayas were made to be missed. I miss them too - and I live here!! (in Japan). I don't miss obaachans in kimono - Granny K in one would probably just annoy me.

You always miss what you can't have - when you come back here (to Japan) you will suddenly miss nice cafes, the 'nonbiri'ness of Oz and god.... all sorts of things.

Don't worry. Shun will by ready to come home by June.

Great photos! Looking at them make me miss Japan soooo much too!

But, I do think it's good to recharge back in your own country and also to show off your country to Shun. There is such a big difference between going somewhere to visit and living somewhere. Shun living in OZ for some time with you will, I think, help with understanding each other better. I'm sure that Shun is loving OZ in the same way you probably loved Japan the first time you went there - lots of different and new places to see, people to meet and experiences to have. It will be such a good memory for you guys to share, and also when you start your family, you'll have photos of 'mum and dad' in both countries that the kids will be part of and together you will be able to explain and share your experiences and cultures with them. So my advice would be - enjoy your time with Shun and your family, it's always such fun seeing someone's reaction to something for the first time :)

The other thing is, time really does fly by these days - it's already September!! Only 104 days 'til Christmas!!
