Comfort food…
Had a crap day.
But just ate toast with butter and vegemite and it was damn good. It is definitely my comfort food. That and chocolate of course.

I wish my comfort food was something like vegetable sticks or rice crackers though so that I wouldn`t have to feel bad for eating it.
I never eat butter when I am trying to lose weight but after the day I had the butter was worth it. So was the chocolate I ate before it. Toast is also my sick food- I live on toast when I am sick. That and lemon C drinks which unfortunately you can`t get here.
What is your comfort food?
In other new somebody did a search for a cherry blossom futon cover and ended up on my blog- so yeah, if you come back and have found out where you can get one, let me know, because that would be cool and I want one now that you have brought it up.

I’m so sorry to hear about your day, but I’m glad I have my RSS feeds set, they land right into my inbox- but for comfort food- I always seek out Macarons, or pancakes with REAL butter but truly comfort food to me and almost always sweets. Chocolate Ganache but for food.. hm.. that is tough.
I’d have to say my mothers “stuffed shells” with ricotta and mascarpone and canoli’s on the side.
Oh yum! I love Vegemite toast and butter (real butter, not margarine). Absolute favourite!
Also am quite partial to a big bowl of steaming linguine flavour with extra virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, bacon, broccoli and loads of parmesan cheese. So quick and easy and hits the spot!
For sweetness – homemade apple crumble – warm out of the oven with vanilla ice cream!
Hope tomorrow is a better day my love! xxx
Uck, vegemite! You Aussies
Sorry to hear you had a bad day. Thanks for all your comments on my blog! And my comfort foods are coffee, chocolate, chips, cheese and pasta. Now wonder I’m having trouble losing those pregnancy pounds (and prepregnancy ones). BTW I watched Big Brother 10 (USA version) and How I Met Your Mother seasons 1 and 2 on your old computer- thanks again
I love vegemite toast too! I make it on wholemealy bread (have you tried the Helga’s Pumpkin 5 seed one – it’s yummy and not too dense) so then I feel virtuous when eating it.
Sorry you had a crap day, hope today is better!
Comfort food yumm, let me think. Well, anything Italian obviously. : ) Homemade stuffed shells, manicotti, homemade pasta, wedding soup,, homemade pizza, etc. Just anything. I also dig anything Mexican too, yumm! And very comforting. : )
Other comfort foods are, fried egg sandwiches with crispy bacon, grilled cheese sandwich and fries, turkey sandwiches after Thanksgiving. : ) And pumpkin pie! : )
Excellent topic Lulu!!! : )
You inspired me Lulu – I’m on my 6th day with the flu (BOOO) and vegemite and toast (with Nuttelex) is the first thing that’s not tasted like snot.
Hooray!
I was thinking of you today Lulu, and you inspired me to post some tips on How to make Japan your home away from home- perhaps my tips can help you and others out there, but I wanted to thank you for the inspiration!!!
Cheer Up!
I hate crap days but I love comfort food for making everything much better! I’m also partical to toast but with Marmite (the real Kiwi choice!). I especially love it when the toast has just come out of the toaster and you quickly put the butter and marmite on and it goes into a melty sticky mess….mmmm…think i’ll have some right now!!
At least vegemite is healthier than chocolate or ice-cream … right? Vegemite on toast is the perfect hangover cure and really good for when you are sick because it has so much iron in it.
My comfort food? Not sure – that would be a range of things! Probably something sweet like ice-cream or chocolate – I hate to be stereotypical but there you go.
I`d have to say grilled cheese sandwiches or macaroni and cheese…..definitely feel good food!! I hope tomorrow is a better day!
Yeah..Vegemite on toast is really comforting or anything made my Mum,maybe because it reminds of being a kid? I’m sorry you had a bad day
*big hugs* I’ve had more than my fair share of those lately..I hope things get better for you soon xxoo Katie
Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!
GirlJapan- Your mum`s stuffed shells sound so yummy! What sort of food is that? I mean from which country. I think chocolate is a favourite of most! I need to eat more macorons- I have only ever tried one! It was yummy though! Also I checked out your post and commented- hope you got it.
Mandy- You are so funny about margarine! I haven`t forgotten! I know you don`t eat it. I don`t really like margarine either but I got more used to it in Japan. I knew you would understand my love of vegemite- does Tom like it? I ask cos a lot of non-Australians don`t like it!!! You better train him up if he doesn`t?!
That pasta sounds yummy- going to try it but add some other vegi instead of brocoli. Will it work with leeks or onion?
Christelle- Your favs sound good right about now! Glad the computer came in handy (and just happy it has survived that long really!)
Suzy- I am going to definitely check out that bread. Sounds good! Do you miss any foods from Japan that were comforting? Can babies eat vegimite? Does Ali like it?
Today was a much better day by the way!
Gina- Oh grilled cheese sandwhiches. Yum! Even better WITH the vegemite! I love talking about food- except it doesn`t help shift the extra kilos I am carrying! Guess what, I had never eaten pumpkin pie until we made it at the kindergarten with the kids last year and I have to say it was very yummy!
Enny- Glad I could help, sorry to hear you have the flu! I read about it on you blog and that sucks. Everyone seems to be getting sick lately, must be the change of seasons!
Jessica- Yes, the butter must go on immediately! I don`t really like promite or marmite but I see the goodness in them because it must be like how I feel about vegemite!
Katie- I totally agree about vegemite been a good hangover cure! Yummy! I think the bread helps soak up all the yucky feelings also!
Is it weird that I don`t like icecream that much? It is definitely nice occasionly but I don`t love it. Chocolate on the other hand…
Tigermama- Thank you! Yum, cheese! I have never really eaten macroni and cheese though but will have to give it ago I think!
Katie (m)- Sorry to hear you have had bad days too- we should catch up again soon for coffee or lunch! That place we went to last time was nice right?? Hope your week and days improve!
Macaroni and cheese is definitely mine. Also tortilla chips with queso dip, a legacy left over from 7 years in Texas. When I went back to the States for the first time after moving here a friend of mine met me at the airport with chips and queso knowing I hadn’t tasted them in 6 months, lol. I’m definitely a cheese fanatic.
Peanut butter. Yay for Japan that I can find Skippy and Peter Pan brands in the Supermarket! Germany only had the gross sugar-free natural stuff…blech. Why eat something so high-fat and leave out the sugar?
Wow there are definitely too many katies and jess and jessica`s that ready my blog! hehehe! I have been getting so many comments lately from lots of lovely lovely people! I love it!
Jess- Is queso like guacamole? If so, YUM! I am a cheese fanatic also- but cheese is so expensive in Japan. Is it the same in China?
Jessica C- I don`t like peanut butter. Apparently I LOVED IT when I was a kid but now I won`t touch the stuff and I don`t know why. That is good that you can find your brands in Tokyo- Are you near Roppongi? or Azabu? I think that would be why…I know that they have Skippy in some other supermarkets too though!
Lulu, Tom LOVES vegemite, he has it on fresh bread with butter and also loves it with melted cheese. A realy quick snack is to smear some bread with butter and vegemite, plus a cheese slice on top and then into the microwave fro 20 seconds. Sinfully delicious! Does Shun eat vegemite?
And yes you could definitely substitute any vege into that pasta! I love leeks now – I had never tried them before coming over here. My all time favourites are sweet potato and pumpkin roasted in the oven – these are 0 points if you use spray oil! DELICIOUS!
