Lunch times…

Conversation earlier in the week with a 17 year old at work.

Girl- “I am a vegetarian now!”

me- ” Oh yeah, why?”

Girl- ” I am reading this book called skinny bitch (This girl is a size 0) and they talk about how cruel they are to the animals and stuff so I gave up meat!”

me- ” So what you got there?” point at her lunch

Girl- “Egg noodles with vegies from the chinese shop”

me- “You know they cooked those in meat broth probably right?”

Girl- “Really? Oh no!”

But she continued eating…

Me- “So will you stop wearing leather?”

Girl- Looks at her leather jacket “um, no…probably not”

Me- “Oh well at least it is a good thing you don`t have fur” I was joking

Girl ” Oh actually I do have a fur coat!”

I stopped the conversation there. Honestly, I am all for people who want to give up meat or become vegetarian, vegan or raw, in fact I haveĀ  A LOT of friends who are vegetarian or vegan etc but I don`t like it when people don`t think through what they are saying before they say it. That said, she is only 17 so for now I will give her the benefit of the doubt.

I went to school with a girl who told us she was a vegetarian but we always used to catch her out eating pizza rounders which had bacon in them.

Awww, I think her heart is in the right place and, like most things you do when you are 17, she’s just committed without really understanding WHY she’s doing it.

Maybe suggest she check out some websites and stuff if you speak to her again, if she leaps into it (and keeps avoiding meat) it’s super easy to not eat the right stuff and get a little malnourished. I made the same mistake when I was that age :)

I agree with you though, it annoys me so much when people don’t even know why they are really doing something important, only it just sounded like a good idea at the time or whatever.

haha Lulu, loved the convo but surely she meant well I would presume but you know.. I can not stand the tard adults who throw words around I’m a Vegan while I nod below the table and see the fucking leather shoes… oh whatever.. haha

I don’t avoid meat but I don’t eat much of it either = ) Glad to see you are feeling much better and thank goodness for my RSS feeds letting me know you updated.

    Have a fab night Lulu!

What’s also hilarious is that book actually promotes veganism, so she was wrong from the get go ;o)

I do worry about people who will read that book and feel the need to take action purely so they think they can get instantly slim…but then, I read it to find out how my veganism can ALSO make me slimmer, so I can’t really judge!

What is good is that it may open people eyes to things, if only a little (as it seems to have done with your workmate).

One of my friend has always been ‘vegetarian’, but I recently found out it was just because she was picky about her cuts of meat/quality of sausage, so it was just easier..!

I’m most amazed that a 17 year old had read a book!!
