Good luck Shun (and your dad)! It is really tough...I smoked for years and years and only gave up properly last year when my dad died from secondary lung cancer....I needed that to make me realise that it was time to quit.My DH gave up a year earlier after deciding one day that he would....Grrr...he had it easy;)I am sure Shun will manage to quit, hopefully while you are still in Australia as smoking in Japan is so much easier and cheaper! And anyway, once you do have children, bet you he will stop;)

My husband has tried to quit a few times, did real good for a while and then failed in the end becuase it is hard : (, especially when everyone at his work smokes.: ( However, Noboru quit actually 3 weeks ago, cold turkey. And he hasn't had a single ciggie since! I hope my hubby can quit for real this time. I hope, hope, hope.

Good luck to your guys Lulu, (both your dad and to Shun) You can do it guys! : )

When I was just going out with hub I said I could never marry someone that smoked. He rang the next day to say he had given up. Thought I better marry him after that. To the best of my knowledge he hasn't had any since.

I hope Shun stops - especially for your dad's sake. Tell him easier to quit now than wait until you are pregnant and then he has to deal with the stress of quitting and a hormonal woman. Probably not a good combination. The smell of smoke sets the bun off so is lucky I live in middle of nowhere and haven't had to be in contact with it much.

Good Luck to Shun and your Dad.

Ohhhh!! Good luck Shun!!!
I really hope that he can do it so that your dad will follow suit as well.

Both of my parents smoked but they quit when they had me and neither of them ever did it again.

Sending quitting and good luck vibes to both of them!!

Quitting is definitely difficult but not impossible. My Dad gave up somking after doing it for more than 25 years - he totally went cold turkey, just after my grandfather was diagnosed with throat cancer caused from smoking. It was hard watching him do it because there were ups and downs and really difficult periods but he's been a non-smoker for more than 10 years now so I'm really proud of him. He took up golf to keep himself busy and he played so often that he's acutally not too bad now! Good luck to Shun and your Dad!!

Tell Shun I said "Ganbatte ne! Gaman shite!" I smoked a pack of 20s a day too when I was in Japan, then it became a pack of 25s over 2 days when I moved back here. It's like avoiding other things that are addictive, it's a matter of occupying your mind so you don't think about it and don't have time to miss it. Maybe for the next few weeks he could try increasing the amount of time spent doing things that take his mind of smoking or where he can't physically smoke like. I guess he should also be trying to space those 5 ciggies a day out, then try and phase out one or two of the "important" ones..ha ha..like the first one of the day and the before/after meal ones. Good luck, ne!
