Less than four months…
It is now less than four months until we get married. After a bit of a lull in the planning things have started to pick up a bit again now with final prep underway.
I have spent the last couple of hours trolling the internet for fake (silk?) cherry blossom branches (anyone want to send me 30 branches or so from Japan?) as we are now onto the “decorating” stage- I would like something like the pictures below for the centre of the tables.

We have an engagement shoot coming up the first weekend of February (I need to convince Shun to have a haircut!), a meeting next week with the invitation place & the venue
It has also gotten to the stage where we now have to start paying for everything- luckily my parents have been more than generous with this side of things but there is still a fair bit we will need to pay off ourselves.
Clare is in town at the moment ( lucky her having four weeks holiday in a row!) so we met with the dressmaker today also and she took our measurements. I will go back to see her early next month for my first fitting (!) and the bridemaids, Clare, Mandy & Cat, have sent there measurements through but they will only be able to do a fitting the week before the wedding (Having bridemaids in three different cities is difficult- especially when two are overseas!). Now that the dress is underway I realized that shoes & accessories were the next step so we spent the day shopping. Found a great pair of bridesmaid shoes but due to it been sale time, they had only one size left. Will keep my eye out though. I also realized that I better start looking at veils if I decide I want one.
I am kind of in love with birdcage style veils but I am not sure if it would suit…There are heaps of pretty ones out there although none of them seem to be in Brisbane!
I am almost falling asleep as I write this- I think I have been staring at the computer screen for too long. Anybody have any suggestions of how we can incorporate the cherry blossom theme better? Or veil ideas?
It is hard to believe it is all coming together & that the wedding is so soon…….

Hi Lulu,
I have an enormous arrangement of cherry blossoms in my bedroom that look EXACTLY like the picture above. I bought them about 2 months ago from Adairs.
I’m working shorter hours at the moment, so I can easily duck in on my way home from work one day next week to see if they still have them. At the very least, a Brissy store should be able to get them in for you!
I’ll let you know what I find out. Anything to bring more cherry blossoms into the world!
LAURA!
Sorry about the tardiness of my reply in response to the blog comment you left me!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS/MERRY NEW YEARS! Why can’t Christmas be happy and New Years merry? I don’t get stuff like that.
I have no earth shattering life plan changes, at least they pale in comparison to all the changes and planning that is occurring in your life. Maybe I’ll just live vicariously through your blog. What am I saying? I DO live vicariously through your blog and all those on your blog roll.
Seriously though, I wish you ALL the best for 2009 and hope everything works out. I have an almost resolute belief that it will. This blog is a destined for a happy ending, not a tragedy. It’s like when you read a novel and you know how the ending is going to turn out before you reach it because the author leaves subtle hints along the way. Well, your blogs foreshadow eternal happiness. I just can’t wait to hear about it.
SQUEEEEEE!!!
I love the look of the second centrepiece – I’m thinking of something along the lines of that, but not sure what to put in (though I noticed my parents have BUTTLOADS of bamboo, so will think about that). I’ve have lots of pics of pretty ones if you want me to send the links, though I don’t think they’re cherry blossom…?
)
I love the birdcage veil – the ones I’ve tried on and loved have been like the full length ones, but I am very confident you’ll carry off a birdcage beautifully
) I’ve also seen a lot of pics of them where they integrate a flower and feathers and stuff into it, so I don’t see why you couldn’t get a blossom one done?
That veil in the pic is lovely – especially if your dress is going to be off the shoulder. Good luck with the cherry blossoms. It will look great if you can get the the same kind. We had silk cherry blossoms on the cake we had at our pre-wedding party here in NZ. Bit of a disappointment though.
Four months! 16 weeks! How many sleeps? 120 sleeps-ish?
The veil will look beautiful on you, with your hair sorta med/short it reminds me of Vintage meets modern. I really like your theme, are you working with a wedding coordinator, if so I hope you still control the reigns nothing like a personal touch to it all..
Goodness do I LOVE that veil and headpiece.
I love birdcage veils!! If you’re into DIY you could try making one yourself. I made one for a costume once and it was pretty easy, plus it allows you to choose the kind of tulle and any ornamentation.
I just saw some branches in a decorating store here in Tokyo last weekend. I’d be happy to send you the name/pictures if you’re interested in checking it out!
Hi Elizabeth, wow, we have adairs in Brisbane so I will definitely check it out. I did get five branches of blossoms (they are ume, plum blossoms though I think) to play around with from a place called “the very thing”…If you could have a look that would be great. I will check out Adairs in Brisbane next weekend (none near my house, will have to go to North Side)! Thanks for the advice
Paul- You are so funny!!! hehe! I am sure you do not really live vivaciously through my blog. Funny you should talk about the blog ending though- I was thinking about that the other day as to whether I want to start a new blog when I return to Japan and direct people to it or stay here- probably will stay here. So who knows what the ending will be…
Enny- I like the second ones too. But I think the first one is more likely as the first will be a bit hard to carry off (with submersion in water and all)- I have a meeting with my venue on Thursday afternoon and will discuss options then. I think while decorating is offered that they will not be able to do the cherry blossom style I want so might have to pay a bit more and get them all myself and make them up. I am thinking square glass vases, with pebbles in the bottom, and the branches sticking out. Then a couple of blossoms pulled off and scattered on the tables?
I am definitely leaning more toward a birdcage veil or facinator! I think it will suit the dress and also because I have short hair. I don`t want one that is as much over my face as in the picture above and think will go for more of a side swept look. Definitely been looking for one with a blossom. Think i might go DIY for the veil.
Katy- I do not know how many sleeps (will check it out after this though! hehe)- I have seen some nice blossoms around before, I just need to find them now and ensure they have enough in stock for the whole wedding! I have tried looking online to order some without much luck.
Your cake sounds lovely still- We are having a cherry blossom cake too! It will have edible flowers though (and the cake toppers will be edible also, but we will not eat them- they will be made to look like Shun & I!)
Girl Japan- Thank you! We don`t really have a wedding coordinator (are they common in Australia? I am not sure!) but there is a venue coordinator. Everything else we have sourced ourself- I am in love with my photographer & cake maker. I love love love them! hehe.
GEG- Thanks for stopping by. I am definitely falling in love with birdcage veils (did many searches last night) and am leaning towards the DIY option. I had a quick look in Lincraft yesterday (the craft shop in town) and they had the netting but I couldn`t find the kind of stuff I would need to make a flower or something to go with it.
I have some more crafty friends around though so I am going to see what they think!
Thanks for the offer for checking out the decorating store, if you could let me know that would be great. I could always ask my MIL or MOH to send some over for us.
Would love to see a picture of the one you made for a costume?!
Hi Lulu! Just been catching up a bit on your blog. It’s so exciting as you near your wedding date- brings back good memories for me as that was the whole reason I started my blog originally (used to be called Countdown to Weddings). I think the table decorations look so beautiful. I bet if you talk to a florist you can get one to special order the real deal rather than going with those plastic branches. You know, you could even get plum ones- doubt anyone would know the difference and they might be cheaper (we always got them for the classrooms at the girls’ school I used to work at). The florist I used in Canada told us to bring paint chips of the colours we wanted for our flowers and they somehow could grow them (actually they were imported too I believe). I’m sure you could order real cherry blossom or plum blossom branches. And four months from now is the perfect time- in fact they’ll be finished where I live but just coming out in Hokkaido then I think. I had wanted a veil originally too but then decided against one because of the hairstyle I chose (liked it so much I didn’t want to cover it up
The bird cage veil (had no idea it was called that) looks so classy. Can’t wait to see photos of the final outcome on your big day!
BTW I loved those photos in your other post. The sunset ones are spectacular and I love the textures and simplicity of the first one, the shells in a heart in the sand- perfect for you right now
And your hubby to be looks great in his sunglasses and uncut hair
