Crapola day…

I had a bad day. You know those days that start off bad and then just get progressively worse. Well that was my day.

I woke up at 5:15am to my Dad telling me he wouldn`t take Shun to work because Shuns foot was still swollen. Yesterday morning Shun had woken up with a swollen foot that looked to have a bug bite. Dad said I would need to write him instructions on how to get to the clinic so the doctor could have a look at it.

Shun does not have medicare and as far as I know he does not qualify for it and I did not think the normal clinic we go to would take him because of this so I rang the local hospital emergency room explained the situation and they said if he brought his passport and travel insurance info then they would treat him and we would just get a bill.

That bill will be about $250 by the way.

I knew I could not send him by himself- while his English is improving I knew he would struggle. So off we went together…

Looks like Shun has been bitten by a spider, most likely a red back. His foot was swollen (so much so his toes looked like they were going to explode off his foot) and it was black near the bite. He was also having trouble walking. They gave him two shots- one for tetanus and an other of furnurgan an anti-allergy med. Plus gave him oral steroids to help combat the swelling. He was told to sleep it off and keep off his foot for the rest of the day. Shun is deathly afraid of needles by the way so that went down well….

Now I usually start work at 7am (I like to get in early and leave early) meaning I catch a train at 6:05am. Of course this did not happen today since we were at the hospital. So it was almost 8am by the time I got to work- this also meant that the train I catch was more crowded than usual and while I got a seat a couple of stops after my stop an overweight gentleman sat next to me- he was sweaty and yuck and practically making a pancake of me by squeezing me up against the window…

Then it was just one thing after the other. Other people not doing their jobs correctly meaning more work for me, not getting the correct info when I should of and dealing with difficult co-workers and just other work crap that I just did not want to have to deal with today.

Honestly, even though I started late, I still left early. I walked out at 3:15pm and did not want to go back- I will go back of course. Tomorrow. Maybe. I have calmed down now but I was just so pissed off and just wanted to cry (I didn`t though!)

I don`t usually write about work on my blog much- I feel it could open myself up to trouble but I just do not care. People were just shitting me off so much.

Then I come home and dad has invited mum for dinner- now that is fine….my mum is always welcome. But of course I had to prepare it, and clean up before she arrived (because she can be very dissaproving/critical if I have not hung up the clean washing properly or the kitchen benches are not sparkling) so I ran around getting the washing off the line, cleaning the bedroom and the bathroom sink and not to mention the kitchen. Plus I had to cook dinner.

I feel as if I am only now relaxing after what was an extremely crapola day…yet it is already almost time for bed.

You poor thing! Sounds likea a long day! Hang in there though! You only have to deal with work crap for another few months! I can’t belive you had to clean the house & cook dinner after such a shite day! I totally understand why though, my mum will show up uninvited and still critisize me for having a messy house! Just think! Tomorrow is Hump day and after that only 2 days until the weekend! Hope Shuns foot gets better fast! I hope he can get some of that money back through his travel insurance.

    Wow. Rough day.

Remind Shun he will have a story to knock the socks off all his mates- not only was he bitten by a deadly Aussie spider- he was bitten by a FAMOUS deadly Aussie spider!

Work stuff sucks sometimes doesn’t it? Not sure about hump day (is it just me that has a different meaning there? *^_^*) but pamper yourself and go and kick some serious butt tomorrow, hey?

Heather- You’ve been an expat in a non-English speaking country for too long! Hump Day = Wednesday, because you ‘get over the hump” and then it’s only 2 days until the weekend!! http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hump%20day
Although make of it what you will, I say!

Katie- Thanks! I am sure you can understand about bad days- is it just govt work? I dont know but sometimes it drives me bonkers. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and I will get over that “hump” quickly…

Shun is on the improve- playing computer games as I type- always a good sign with him!! :-)

Heather- I am not sure but I think “hump day” is something that is said in the public sector a lot….but not much else where. I hear it a lot!!! Once Wednesday is over you are over the mid-week hump and heading into the weekend……like a camals back I guess.

It must have been a little red back if it was that as he did not get sick in his stomach (a usual symptom) but he did get a slight fever and numbness of the limb. He is on the improve though!

What a horrible day — from start to finish! I’m glad to here that at time of writing you were beginning to feel better — and it’s downhill all the way to the weekend tomorrow. I hope Shun feels better soon, the idea of being bitten by a redback while asleep is pretty scary (to me) so I hope he’s on the mend quickly.

so sorry to hear about your crap-a-roo-nie day – there is nothing worse than work sucking, when it is other people just not doing their job and pulling you down! and poor, poor shun being bitten by a redback (but I guess he should at least be thankfull we wasn’t bitten on the bum, a-la “Red back on the toilet seat” scenario. There must be something in the air though – I mounted the kerb and put a HUGE NASTY scratch in our 6month old car, a friend rubbed my arm and pulled a thread in my favourite NEW and not-so-cheap jumper, and our house looks like a bomb hit it too. and it is now snowing here!! hope tomorrow and the rest of the week is better for you!

oh, and I know you wrote that shun has int’l medical insurance, but I am sure I read/heard somewhere that you can claim overseas medical bills with your japanese health insurance too (and only pay the standard 30% or whatever you pay in Japan). I don’t know which would work out better/easier, but it might be worth looking into ??? (that is, if shun’s still paying ?????? or his company is paying into ????for him)

What a crap day. Yay you for holding yourself together as the day got worse and worse. I would have been furious at having to clean AND cook dinner. That`s so not fair. I hope there was at least a thank you at the end of it all. If not, I`d be spitting in their food tomorrow…..

I know days like that well as I have been having a few myself lately. Sorry to hear about Shun’s foot and the problems with work . I was going to say the same as tj-injapan. You should be able to get back a chunk of that money from the Japanese health insurance system. Ask Shun to check out whether it will be possible or not.

BIG hugs from me. Hopefully you will have lots of better days for the rest of the week.

:( Sorry it was such a sucky day – I hope the foot gets better soon!

That does sound stressful and sucky. I’m sorry! I was there, too. I got rejected from a job I wanted and I got my first-ever speeding ticket, which made me late to my class at the gym. So we can recover together–we’re both in for good days tomorrow!

What a truely ‘Australian experience’ for Shun to write home about, albeit a painful one. If that had happened while we home Granny K would have fluffed off the spider explanation and blamed big exploding foot syndrome on too much bread and potatoes and not enough rice and daikon. Glad he is feeling a bit better.

I am amazed you still managed to get into work by 8am. What a legend after such a hectic morning. Shame on your dad for organizing a dinner that he wasn’t going to help do anything for. What you needed after yesterday was fish n chips on the living room floor and a big glass of wine (or three or six).

Reading the comment about the shiny kitchen bench made me cringe – oh dear, starting to see myself in thirty years. LOVE having nice shiny bench :)

Hope the rest of the week is an improvement. Not long to go.

    Hugs.

You were right when you said that you thought poor Shun was bitten by a red back!! What an awful experience for him – although as others has mentioned it will be story he will be able to share!!

I hope he is feeling better today!

I’m also sorry that you had such a crap day…. I hope that you are having a better day today!

Sorry for the shit day! Is is warm and sunny at least? Cold, rainy and miserable here :( Hope your week finishes better than it started!

  14. Jessica, 4. March 2009, 17:24

Wow, what a crap day! I hate spiders, just the idea of being bitten by one scares me. I’m glad he’s feeling better.

I hope tomorrow is less stressful … just think, the week is almost over, only Thursday and Friday left to go! :D

What a horrid day, and yet you still HAD to go to work and DEAL with unruly and unpleasant coworkers (we have them all). I had to laugh at the “shiny” “shiny”, I guess your brought on the bling of clean, eh?

I hope you self-indulged into a decedent piece of Ganache layered over come choco cake, or had a nib here and there and soaked into a blissful bath. The spider, foot story… totally freaked me out.. I am afraid of all-things-bug like. Hope you are having a sunnier day today my friend.

oh my gosh. that sounds like a horrible day :( poor shun. i hate spiders i think i would terrified if i was bit by one, esp. a deadly one.

sorry to hear that things are going so poorly with work and at home. i wish i was able to talk to you since maybe it would help to just vent. big hugs

Sorry to hear about your crap day. Good news is they usually only come once in a while and you got yours over with! And as for the hospital bill, that’s par for the course. When we were in Canada ds had a rash on his face so we took him to a clinic (we had insurance but had to pay up front first too) $300 freaking dollars for the doctor to see him for two minutes and tell us to buy an over the counter med!!!! So, “$250 with needles sounds pretty good to me :) You don’t realize how expensive medical care is til you don’t have insurance coverage (is it universal healthcare in Australia too?) Anyways, off topic, I do hope your dinner went well and that you’re having a good weekend. Also, glad that the spider bit Shun now rather than right before your wedding :) “Always look on the bright side of life *whistle whistle whistle whistle*”
