Comfort eater…

If these last couple of (stressful!) weeks have shown me anything it is that I am definitely a comfort eater. I always knew this- I am pretty certain I have always been a comfort eater. I had thought I would be better now seeing as I have put so much effort trying to lose weight and watch what I eat but instead I reverted back to my unhealthy ways.
I am just not one of those people that gets stressed and doesn`t eat nor am I a person who stops eating when they are sick. Quite the opposite on both counts much to my dismay!
I have lost just under 12kgs since coming home to Australia and I am not ready to stop now. I am determined to lose those last couple of pesky kilos. I got on the scales today and it seems I have put on half a kilo in the last couple of weeks due to comfort eating, lack of exercise and lack of motivation to attend weight watchers meetings.
I know stress affects people in different ways but I am determined to not let it run my life creating havoc on my eating habits/exercise habits.
So my goals for the upcoming weeks are:
Learn to stop letting my emotions and stressful situations control my eating and get back on track with planning ahead (or at least change my comfort foods from chocolate to fruit or veggie sticks
Get back into an exercise regime- this means returning to aqua aerobics, walking more often, hula hooping and doing either pilates on DVD or returning to yoga class.
Start tracking my food intake again- ie. writing down what I eat.
Return to meetings from next Thursday (this Thursday I have plans with two friends in town)

Oh – I wish I was a stress non-eater! Instead, I eat whatever I can eat quickest which is usually veeeeeeeery bad ;o)
Keep in mind though – .5kg is only two glasses of water…!!
hey fellow comfort eater! I’m starting a new leaf today where pancakes are not one of the five food groups….
Well I can’t say that I’m a comfort eater under stress, which I guess is a good thing!
Under stress, I usually sleep a lot and hide behind my laptop.
But I DO have problems with motivated myself to go exercise! I still struggle with that. But I’ve been getting better at it recently.
Keep going with your weight loss plans! I’m rooting for you!
Please root for me too! Haha.
Oh my gawd’ I LOVE pancakes! D: Yumyum.
Well thank you girls!
I just did half an hour of hooping and 20 minutes of hand weights and stretchers!!!
Luckily pancakes is not one of my five food groups- cheese is one on its own though! Chocolate too!
Laura- hopefully now that it will start to get warmer and the sakura will bloom it will help you get out and about.
I also sleep a lot when stressed which is why I missed work today because I woke up at 5:30am and couldn`t move- just too exhausted. Definitely stressed. Sleeping too much also is not good for me though because it means my eating patterns get out of whack!
Good luck to everyone trying to overcome comfort eating and turn over a new leaf!
Hey.. I found a chocolate which is fairly low calorie and you don’t need a lot of it to satisfy the chocolate craving..
Aldi has a chocolate called “Ecuador” which is 75% cocoa and unlike some of the other high cocoa chocolates it is very low in calories. I’m crazy about it. I highly recommend it.
So if you’re near an Aldi you might want to check it out.
The thing I find really hard about watching what you eat is craving things and refusing to eat those things, so I try to just have smaller serves of them or look for options which taste as good but have less calories.
All I can say is god that photo of goodies look so yummy…. I am a comfort eater as well but in Japan it isn’t so easy to find my ‘comfort foods’ so unless Naoki buys snacks, I don’t normally have any temptations lying around!
I am sure that with your motivation, you will be able to lose the last couple of kilos!! I’m cheering you on from over here! Hoping that soon I will find the motivation to get off my lazy butt and do something about my increasing waist line…
Good luck hun!
I’m trying to overcome bored eating and over-snacking by eating breakfast daily and loading up on healthy lunches of soups and veggies. But I just want junk food.

Ok now I feel better about the peach jelly, cookies, and ice cream I ate last night… ;_;
BTW you are a star!! I am so envious of your losing 12 kg. Hope I can replicate that achievement sometime before the end of 2010
Eh…. Just one pound (you can rid this pesky kilo in no time) It is not easy, and I have been rethinking than to rather do long stretches of exercise do quick high intensity 30 min than a long drawn out 60 plus..
Girlfriend, you know I like to eat at anytime, I eat when I am happy, when I am sad and worse, when I am bored. I love food, I like the taste. My comfort foods are “hamburgers” without salt and a pint of ice-cream all to myself.
I tend to exercise when I am stressed but I can put on weight when I don’t move, like the last two times I broke my knee skiing… ERRRRR 1 kilo darling, don’t worry- I bet if you cut back for a day or two, it would disappear.
I like to use aromatherapy when the emotions and stressfull situation cames into my life.
Patchouli and lavander oil are good to control appetite. I use them with a diffuser.
Argh. I’m a comfort/stress eater. Doing more of that than I should be lately. I *know* I shouldn’t but argh.
Despite being a comfort eater I think you’re doing fantastic! Don’t worry about such a small amount, it’s natural for your weight to fluctuate a little bit. AND it is important to indulge a little bit sometimes, just means you have to work a little hearder to keep it off after. With the amount of exercising you’re doing, you must notice your energy levels are higher too so that helps in staying happy and unstressed, no? Don’t give up Laura!
I can’t wait for the weather to STAY warm so I can continue my long walks =)
