Macro Monday…

Green Tree Frog

March 31 2009, At home in Brisbane, Olympus E520

This is one of my favourite Macro Monday posts so far. That is Shun holding a green tree frog that he found downstairs under the house on one of dad`s toolboxes a couple of weeks ago- it was late at night and he went out for a smoke and then I hear this “?????????????”  meaning “Laura, come quick” and he was under the house trying to protect the frog from Abbey.

He had never seen a green tree frog outside of a zoo before but he knew what it was. I laughed as he ran around trying to catch it while Abbey was also trying to pounce. Luckily he caught it and we released it over the fence into the vacant block. I was surprised to see a green tree frog as we live so close to the ocean and they are not fans of salt water.

Green tree frogs are native to Australia and the one in the picture above is quite small compared to average (10cm) so I think it may have been a baby. They eat mainly spiders and insects and are extremely docile. I wouldn`t say they are rare but they are definitely not so prevelant in Brisbane…

Isn`t it cute?

I love green tree frogs!!!! What a lovely photo. Nobu is scared of frogs. The one and only time I made him hold one he absolutely hated it and the look in his face was hilarious. I`m going to show him this photo when he gets home….heh heh heh

Haha thats so cute!!! I actually like frogs (not the big fat ugly ones)
Ryoheis parents have a ton of little green frogs in the lot next to their house! I’m looking forward to catching them with BG when we visit baa-chan and jii-chan in the future!

He is so cute! (The frog that is!!) Mr. Nemo’s aunt and uncle have them in their garden in Chiba too, believe it or not! They only live 15 minutes out of Tokyo too, so not even really in the sticks! I love green tree frogs! They are so beautiful.

I love frogs! He is so cute. :)
Takeshi, sadly, greatly dislikes any kind of amphibians, reptiles, or insects!
I used to have 4 tree frogs as pets when I was in junior high school.

That is one seriously cute frog! I love frogs. I had a “pet” one in Matsumoto who used to live in the long grass near my washing poles. When I watered my garden he’d come out and jump under the water spray. I called him Kiyoshi Frog…..

Oh that’s a gorgeous frog! They aren’t very common. I guess it’s because they love rain and moisture. A lady who lives down the road from my parents actually breeds them. LOL @ Shun!!!!

They will be surrounding us in a few months when the rice gets planted. On the porch, on the washing… very cute. I wish they ate the spides though. Sadly I think it’s probably the other way round judging by the size of the spiders round here. Big bull frogs too :p

Tree frogs are very cute! Where I grew up we had loads of them, they’d breed in the Spring and we’d collect tadpoles, which would become tiny tiny baby frogs by Summer. I remember my younger brother and I had a whole terrarium full of them at one point.

    Nice picture!

That’s such a cute litle story, and to top it off this has to be my favourite macro shot so far.
It’s just sooooo cute! Looks like he’s holding it so careful, like a precious diamond or something… kekeke… awwww

I’ve only ever found a tree frog once, on mother’s day in the par near my house when I was little. They are just too adorable.

Great picture! I once drove 45 miles, at times up to 70 mph, with a poor, little tree frog clining for his dear, froggy life on my side mirror! I didn’t realize he was there until near the end fo the trip!

Awwww, that is such a cute picture! The macro function is awesome!!

I miss wildlife (in someways….not giant huntsman spiders which are thankfully non existent in London). Though when Mum and Dad were visiting, I unfurled their blow up bed and this massive toad went flying across the room out of it. I ran away to shut myself in our bedroom screaming at the top of my lungs while Tom and parents removed the toad.

Heaven knows how it got in the house (we live on the upper floor!!)…me thinks it hitched a ride from the airport!

Can’t wait to see you hun – only 9 days now!! xoxxo

Fantastic pic! I love the colour of tree frogs but I too have never seen one outside of a zoo. The frogs that surrounded my home in Canada were all dull colours.
