Quick update…
Quick update in dot point form! Gotta love dot points…
- We got back from our honeymoon on Monday afternoon- it was a lovely 4 nights away and below is the view from our hotel room. Nice huh? I will eventually do a proper update on the honeymoon (I hope!) but I will say we had perfect weather, we snorkelled on the great barrier reef, relaxed on Whitehaven Beach and ate a lot of yummy food! Oh, and I read three books, it was great!

- We leave for Japan Monday night, quick stop in Sydney before transferring to a plane bound for Narita Airport. We arrive in Japan early Tuesday morning (26 May- Shun`s birthday!)- we spent today packing up the rest of our stuff except for some limited clothes to pack into our suitcases on the weekend. The shipping company picks up our boxes tomorrow. I have lots to look forward to when we return to Japan- Sarah and Nay come that first Sunday to visit Shun & I in Chiba and on the Monday Shun will return to work while us girls with two other friends will head off on a picnic at Ueno! I will see Cat, James and co over the weekend before that and hopefully fit in some karaoke! I will also do the good gaijin thing and apply for my alien registration card! After Nay & Sarah head back to their places I will get stuck into looking for a job and an apartment/house (although due to money constraints I doubt we will be able to move from Shun`s parents place until August- yes, you heard right, we will live with the in-laws)
- I am lacking veggies in my diet and am going to make a ham and veggie soup tomorrow- never had much success with soup so wish me luck (due to lack of success I am going to Mum`s so she can help me
) - Oh yeah, I changed my name, I am now officially L.Marushima ! My passport says it and all! I can pick up my spouse visa on Friday (yeah, we are cutting it a bit fine!) – it wasn`t until I was filling in my passport application that I realized “oh crap, gotta come up with a new signature” – apparently I should of been practicing it sooner!
- News flash- getting a hair cut tomorrow! It will all go!
- These last couple of days in Brisbane will be spent avoiding the floods (yes, South East Queensland got 300mm of rain, just today and rain is expected to last til the weekend), saying out last good byes and having dinner with my family on Saturday night (what my brother refers to as “the last supper”) and lounging around doing not much at all. Oh and picking up spouse visa, having lunch with my dad, having a haircut and making veggie soup!
- Oh yeah and Shun is doing great!

Hi Lulu. Congrats on your wedding and glad to hear your honeymoon went great.
I haven’t heard from you in a while, but I’m still alive, if anyone is wondering.
I go tomorrow to get my foreigner registration card renewed, and I just had my spouse visa renewed as well.
Wow! That kind of schedule would have me coming out in hives! Enjoy the whirlwind last week, huh?
And the name thing made me laugh. I spent *ages* practising Fukase in kanji so I wouldn’t be embarrassed forgetting it and then somehow completely overlooked a new English signature. Oops! Stood in the bank for 5 minutes doodling variations on a deposit slip!
Yay an update!!!!!! Ohh pretty picture from your honeymoon, that looks lovely!!! Can’t wait to see more! You guys have a busy rest of the month it seems.. glad I will be able to see you and FINALLY meet Shun before the end of it!!!!
Sending you stressfree vibes and easy flight!!!
beautiful picture. It’s been fun following your marriage preparations. Excited to hear about your new life in Japan!
Wow, what a gorgeous place for a honeymoon, it sounds like you guys had a great time! I’m always taken by surprise when I have to write my married name in English too, I still don’t really have a fancy signature like I used to! At least the character for my last name is really simple — only 4 strokes — so I don’t have to worry about screwing that up!
I hope you guys have a safe and uneventful trip back to Japan and soon are settled in comfortably!
It is going to be a whirlwind few days for you! But how wonderful on the new name and marital changes… it’s so exciting! Your honeymoon looks beautiful and I can’t wait to read more about it. We loved, loved, loved Australia! I’m slowly blogging it, but life back in Japan and a very active baby has made it slow going.
Safe travels for you and Shun back to Japan!!
Glad you had a great honeymoon!
I practiced my new signature a hundred times for every celebrity I ever had a crush on but not once with my husband’s name until after I got married and it was like “oh, that’s not right!”
That looks AMAZING! I’m glad you two could enjoy yourselves and have a nice relaxing break between wedding busy and moving/visiting busy =)
Isn’t it exciting to look at all your new ID and think “omg… I’m MARRIED!” I was obsessed with my passport for a while there haha Congrats again, Mrs. Marushima! Looking forward to our meetup~~
Congratulations, your wedding photos look sooooo beautiful! Honeymoon souns nice as well, lots of relaxing! Hope the trip back to Japan Land goes smoothly!
Oh.. utter bliss, just a fab photo Lulu! So you went from an R. to an M.!!! So are you feeling it yet? Are you feeling “married”? lol
Will you be moving to the “civilization” part of Chiba or the “boonies” part of Chiba? Does this mean now that you are here we can throw a huge party?
The view from your honeymoon apartment looks gorgeous!! I can’t wait to hear more about it!! You definitely have to show me all the pics when I come up to visit!!
Congrats on your passport (and by now your spouse visa?)!! I was soo excited when I got my new passport!! I would get it out and stare at all all the time!!
I cant wait till I come up… I am counting down the days
That view! I wish I could go onto my balcony here in London and see that.
Does your new name translate as ‘Circle Island’ or am I being too literal here?
wow what a beautiful photo! Sounds like you had a nice break. Hope the packing/moving is going well!!
Hey Everyone, thanks for all the recent comments! I know I am so slack at replying individually. Bad blogger I know!
Laura- I thought you were going back to America soon? I have to apply for my gaijin card once I get back- that will be fun, i am sure.
Karen- I saw your first installment- looking forward to the rest but I can imagine things are busy with bub!
Girl Japan- I will be in Ichikawa which is the next station to Koiwa which is still in Tokyo- so not quite the boonies. HAHA. Pretty close to the city actually. And yes, i think we shall throw a bit party! Yay!
Emsk- The name does translate as that but I like to say round mountain bird because the kanji is a bit rare it is ????as you can see the second kanji is not the traditional kanji for island but instead a small mountain with the bird kanji- I think it is cute!
Sounds fantastic! Unfortunately I haven’t got kanji on my computer, but I’ll check your site at work and I can kind of imagine it.
