Introducing Goma-chan…

Goma-Chan 29/05/09

Introducing goma-chan.

Surprise!

I am 11 weeks 5 days pregnant according to the scan I had today- although I think that is about a week fast (me and my big gaijin baby!) Shun & I are very excited- we have known for almost 7 weeks now and it has been hard keeping it to ourselves (In fact we didn`t do a very good job of that- a lot of people know- my mum and dad and also Shun`s parents could not contain their excitement either and have told a multitude of people)

I have had quite bad morning sickness on occasion but it seems to be settling down finally- those might be my famous last words though! Although I hope not. No other real exciting symptoms apart from that.

I have found a clinic here in Japan that I really like and I am due around mid-Decemeber. So yes, a winter and Christmas baby! My first trip to the clinic was today but I didn`t have insurance yet (have to wait til Shun returns to work on Monday) and I didn`t have my baby book or Boshi Techo so they just did a scan and asked us to fill in a lot of forms but I will have more tests in a couple of weeks.

Goma-chan (named this as it was the size of a seasame seed when we found out we were pregnant and goma means seasame in Japanese) was very active today, swimming around and the doctor said I would probably be able to start feeling him in  a couple of weeks since he was moving around so much!

Oh and for the record, i think it is a boy but Shun thinks it is a girl. You can place your guesses!

I was just reading Sarah’s blog and then I clicked yours and saw the u/s pic and took a double take thinking I’d clicked a backdated entry of hers…but…NO! I’m so happy for you guys =)

Hm, since this year seems to be the year of girls… I’ll say you’re having one too.
That’s a great shot btw. I don’t think I have one that looks that good so early!

We’ll have even more to talk about come Monday, now hehe

  7. gaijinwife, 29. May 2009, 20:45

Congratulations!! I’ll put my vote in for a boy :)
It must have made planning the wedding and the honeymoon a lot harder than you had probably anticipated, not to mention the move back here. Hope the morning sickness goes away soon.

A winter baby is nice – and hard to believe that your first christmas as hub and wife and you will be hub and wife plus one.

Ganbatte – and perhaps maybe not read any of my posts for a few weeks cause plan on posting uncensored birth story – probably not such good read for first time mothers. But never know, my birth plan may come true and bunster will just slide out in matter of minutes :)

    Take it easy

  18. Jessica, 30. May 2009, 2:30

Yay my due date buddy is out of the pregnancy closet! :D You’re actually not as far behind me as you thought, eh? I’m 13 weeks 4 days now, not feeling any movement yet but I’m hoping soon since I hear you can sometimes feel it earlier with your second. With my son I think I felt him around 18 weeks and it seemed to take forever for that to happen!

Glad you’re feeling a bit better now. I’m one of those horrible people who doesn’t seem to get morning sickness but the major 1st trimester symptoms should gradually start easing up soon. The 2nd trimester is definitely the best!

  19. Jess, 30. May 2009, 5:02

Oh my gosh, what a surprise! Congratulations. Wow, this has been a good year for you! If you need any help or advice, please let me know! Oh, and if it is a girl, I have some baby clothes for you…my daughter was born in February, so seasonally, the clothes would work for you too. Hang in there with the morning sickness. You’ll have more energy in the 2nd trimester.

Just came across your blog. Got to say Congratualations on the baby. I`m the same as you, foreign (American) married to a Japanese guy, living in Tokyo and expecting a baby this year (late October).

Good luck finding out the gender, at 18 weeks my Dr didn`t (wouldn`t) say anything. Rather annoying really.

  35. Tiffany, 5. June 2009, 4:22

I’ve been a lurker of your blog for a few months (found it while look for foreigners living in Japan) and I just wanted to say congratulations to you and your husband. The two of you make a nice couple and I’m sure goma-chan will be adorable. Here is wishing you good health and happiness.

Congratulations! If you haven’t already, and you can free yourself up on Thursdays during the day, you should check out the Tokyo Pregnancy Group (www.tokyopregnancygroup.blogspot.com). I went to the meetings while pregnant, and now have several friends with same age babies and we meet for playdates (a necessity for maintaining sanity, trust me!). Hope the morning sickness passes soon…enjoy!
