Odd scales…

Met up with a friend for coffee this afternoon. T from TJKR in Japan. We hadn`t seen each other since just after Christmas when we had okonomiyaki with her, J and K in Australia! (YUM!)- it was so nice to see both T and K again today and K had grown so much. She napped for most of our coffee break (LUCKY T!) and woke up near the end to show me her “baby” and to strap “baby” into the stroller. Apparently her dolls name is “baby”

I also got all the ingredients I need to make lasange since I am cooking tomorrow night and lasange it is!

Last night I used Shun`s mum`s scales to see how much weight I have put on this month- I thought it would be stacks but I think her scales are wrong since it says I have lost weight. I had never used those scales before but I am certain I have not lost 1.5kg! HAHA. She tried to convince me they were right but I was like “As much as I would of liked to have lost weight, see this belly, it is obvious I haven`t!”. I guess I will just have to wait til I go see the doctor next Friday since I will have to weigh myself then anyway…

Goma-chan is moving more and more but still just feels like bubbles- no proper kicks or anything yet but I suppose it is a bit too early for that. I have been thinking more and more about the names we like and there might be some other contendors now- I will just have to get Shun onside! Some of the names we like are very Japanese sounding and others are definitely more western. Middle names are western and pretty much decided on I think (but who knows!)- either way the baby won`t have a name until it is out and living in the outside world as I am a big believer in needing to “see” the baby before naming it officially!

My mum booked her tickets to Japan and she is arriving December 26th for three weeks. Goma-chan should definitely be out by then I hope, and even if I am still in the hospital it is close enough to new years that Shun will take some time off if I am not home from the clinic yet. I am excited to have my mum coming to stay (hi mum!)- and while I know we will disagree on some points of child raising and other things I am sure it will still be fantastic to have her around to help while goma-chan is still so small. With the cheaper jetstart tickets on offer now too I am wondering if I should try and make it back to Australia sometime in the first half of next year….I am still debating it. Can you book a “baby” onto a flight without knowing its name and not having a passport for it? HAHA, must find out.

My brother and his girlfriend also got two for one tickets to come to Japan next March for cherry blossom season (1500 dollars return for BOTH of them!)- the arrive March 26th and stay for just over 2 weeks. They will not spend all of that time with us though and plan on travelling to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Hiroshima, Himeji and more.

I know I am behind on my update for June for my 101 things in 1001 days but I will get it up soon I promise- It will be pretty dull though since I think I only did two things! HAHA

  1. I want a set of those magic scales!!! Although making Goma-chan is taking a lot of your energy, maybe you did lose some!
I booked Ashton onto a flight without knowing his name, I entered it as ‘Baby Suya.’ You’re supposed to call them when you know the name and they can enter it but I forgot so they thought his name was actually ‘baby!’ hehe If you’re going with jetstar double, triple, a million times check you have a baby bed, I booked one early then they cocked it up, but they were great in the end.

  2. Oh Corinne thanks for that advice- I am going to start looking out for cheap jetstar tickets sometime for next summer perhaps- I am hating the summer here now so maybe a trip to Brisbane next June during rainy season would be a good idea- I could probably even wait until baby is born to book but will see.

Good to know that baby marushima would be okay!

  3. Think only conclusion is baby is in fact eating fat deposits – and if so you realise women the world over will want some of those genes. You could make millions.

Shou called the bunster ‘baby’ up until about a week ago.

Am very jealous of the price of those tickets your brother and girlfriend got. You’ll have half of australia coming to visit for those prices.

Having your mum will be great – there’s not much child raising advice to have differences on in the very early days. Baths and clothing and breast feeding – yes. Granny K had advice on all of these and I told her to bugger off – which is a lot easier to do when own mother. And despite any differences, it will just be great having her there. I so wanted my mum there all three times. She did come for Shou but he was already five weeks. Having her actually there for the birth (not necessarly in the room) and straight after would have been magic – that first child is so surreal and you get a sudden longing for your mum and wanting to thank her for what she had to go through too :)

  4. I agree with GW. I don`t get on with my Mum but I have never wanted her around as much as I did the day I gave birth to Joey. You are lucky your Mum will be around for some of the first month as that will be a huge help. Can you send those magic scales to London please? My dieting has stagnated thanks to lots of yummy cheap ice-cream and the heatwave in London! (oh, that and the endless pub crawls Mal is forever dragging me on- it`s a hard life! :-)

  5. I’d like a set of those magic scales as well…
I am hoping for sublime and magnificent weight loss as soon as the baby pops out into the world. (fat chance – but I can dream!)

My mom is coming as well and like you I am so-so on it… happy to have someone around but we fight quite a bit as well PLUS the no Japanese issue… so… just hoping that like Midori and GW said it will be less stress as opposed to more!!!

    Oh by the way – I only gained 2kg up until about week 20 or of pregnancy.. so it seems like from week 23 on the fat monster… or the baby monster I guess got me ;_;

  6. I just had this nice reply typed out and then I knocked my whole computer over by trying to stand up with my headphones still on! I’m an idiot …

Anyhow, what I was going to say was, did you lose weight in the 1st trimester and maybe you’re just now getting back on track? I know a lot of women who lose at first due to morning sickness. I know I didn’t lose, but I don’t think I’ve gained a massive amount yet either and I’m only about 2 weeks ahead of you. Agree with Sarah that the 2nd and 3rd trimesters are when the gaining really picks up, which makes sense, because that’s when the baby really starts getting bigger too.

There are some great prices on tickets out there right now! I would definitely book if you have a good idea that you’ll want to travel next Summer. The baby will be about 6 months at that point to, and imo that’s a good age for traveling, because they’re not really mobile yet, so they won’t get as restless on the plane, but they’re past the newborn crying all the time and annoying people stage. They’re also so cute at that age and the folks back home I’m sure will love to see him/her!
