101 things update for July 2009…
16 months ago I made a list of 101 things I wanted to complete in 1001 days- I have managed to cross something off every month until now. In July, I did nothing off my list…
I have however found a pattern for a bag I want to sew, bought sumo tickets for September and we have started working on a budget but will know more once Shun`s next pay check comes in and August is actually a month I have work (on Saturday`s) wheras next month I won`t have the same income come in. Hopefully we can finish watching Heroes sometime this month maybe? That said August is halfway through and I haven`t managed to cross anything off yet…
Oh well, maybe the end of August or maybe September will allow me to cross more off the list.

In other news:
- We are going shopping for some baby stuff this weekend. Off to Ikea to look at baby cots and then to Akachan Honpo for some neccessities and to try out prams. Shun assures me we will get whichever one I like online for a lot cheaper so I am allowed to only “test” them out at the shop. I figure a pram is not something I need really 4 months before the baby even arrives but hey, better to be prepared. Plus Gaijin Wife, Christelle and Cassie in Fuchu have kindly offered up some of their old baby things which I will be eternally grateful for! Gotta love bloggy and forum friends!
- I sent a long list of stuff off to mum that I want her to get me (sorry mum!) and also a gift card that we got for our wedding that she can use towards it. Things like Winter breastfeeding friendly PJs for the hospital (so yes went a size or two bigger as I imagine the baby weight doesn`t just melt off, which is a shame!) and other goodies. I also bought six cloth diapers (will attempt it and if I manage to do cloth diapering will order more- without a dryer though not quite sure how I will go there) and a baby ergo online from an Australia site and shipped them to my mum`s place. That way she can bring them over when she comes on December 26th.
- A long time ago I worked for a company and wrote a couple of articles for them as well as worked there- one article I wrote was a review of a resteraunt called Good Honest Grub which was based in Harajuku. It sadly closed soon after that when the owner needed to return to his home country of Canada. But Good Honest Grub is back, now in Ebisu and I am off there on Monday with Cassie and Nana for a “girls” lunch date. I am really excited because they used to have the best food made from really fresh an interesting ingredients. Their dips and smoothies were to die for!
- I went out to Yuzuwaya this morning briefly (craft shop) to get some Rigilene as I am going to attempt to sew a nursing cover. Also needed some clasps for bibs as I have three bibs all cut and ready to sew but I haven`t gotten out the machine yet. But the non-fun part of ironing and cutting is done so hopefully the sewing will take place soon- maybe even this afternoon (don`t hold your breath). Anyway, after i left Yuzuwaya (two stops away from me by train in Tsudanuma- just want to say the one there is SOOOOOOO not at as good as the one in Kichijoji where I used to live) I felt so sick and had to go to a cafe to sit down for awhile. I seriously thought I was dying…my stomach hurt, i felt nauseous and dizzy…I didn`t know how I would make it home. After a bit of a rest though I felt much better and when I finally did get home it was nice to just sit down on the couch and do nothing.
- I was going to try and go to Nagano during Silver Week but sadly with baby expenses and other expenses and my lack of work I have had to postpone the trip- I am hoping I will make it one day to visit with Heather and her girls though. Sarah (and probably Nay!) will visit in September when they come to get Sakura`s passport and I really really really hope to get to Shizuoka sometime before the baby is born to see Nay`s place.

wait….I am confused…are we going there this monday or the 24th? Either one is ok, just would hate to leave you stranded at Ebisu station!
I love shopping for baby things, it is so much fun! Unfortunately my husband is the world’s worst shopper. He’s really frugal and gets all antsy about spending money unless we’re going out with one specific big purchase in mind that he’s come to terms with already. We got a stroller/pram when DS was about 6 weeks old I think, and the crib we had set up I think by the time I was about 36 ish weeks pregnant. I don’t think I did any baby shopping at all until I was well over 20 weeks myself, and for this one I haven’t bought anything at all yet. To be honest, I’m a bit clueless as to what I should actually buy, since we don’t know the sex, so I’m not sure if I should be buying girl clothes or not, and we have loads of boy clothes already. I guess I could buy some neutral stuff, but I feel like that would be redundant somehow?
Congratulations on your pregnancy. I just found your blog, and it’s one of my favourite colours too!
Good luck with the 101 things, I’d be hopeless at that sort of stuff, I lack the motivation haha.
Baby shopping…so fun but so dangerous! It’s totally easy to go overboard, especially if it’s your first. It’s best to just try and buy the basics in the beginning and then get the rest as you go along. Easy to say but not so easy to do I know! I just finished shopping for a new baby car so let me know if you need any pointers on what to look for. Have you already purchased your Ergo? I believe they are coming out with a new model in September. Oh and have you checked Gulliver http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/glv/index.html for baby stuff? They have some amazing deals like Ergos for 7,950yen and loads of other stuff. I’m all about the deals!
Happy Shopping!
BAAAAAABY SHOPPPPPING!!! *throws arms in the air!*
Sounds like fun. Hope you get everything you need on time. I didn’t think I would, but surprisingly I had everything together by 35 weeks. I really hope you stop getting those “sick spells” soon too, there’s nothing worse! Feel better~
Sorry I didn’t get to chat earlier, totally was in the mood for it too… but when a man is hungry there is no “just a sec” lol =)
Yes, the Kichijoji Yuzawaya is the best one I have been in so far. Thats great that you are making your own bibs. I bought a 5 pack at Ikea for I think something like 400 or 500 yen. I need to pick up a couple of plastic ones. My sister just started solids with my niece and evidently bananas stain cloth bibs something bad.
Yes, the dryer thing had me worried about cloth diapering also. My solution was to make sure that I had 2 dozen diapers, so that I could at least wash them in the evening and hang them up inside to help dry them. I figured at a last resort I would take them to the laundromat to dry the diapers. Of course, since the old washer died and we had to buy a new one that worry luckily flew out the window. Now my biggest concern is the actual washing process (did you know that you need special detergent that doesn`t contain bleach, enzymes, scents to help prevent diaper rash etc? I didn`t know either)
I think the baby car is the only thing we still need to get but I`m reluctant to buy one off the bat since the kind that work for new borns and then slighter older ones are more expensive. I was thinking of using the sling(though the kind my sister sent me isn`t quite the kind that is common here so might need to get a baby ergo or other such brand) until the baby could at least sit up a bit better than not.
Hope you will not have any dizzy attacs to come, but IF, please call. It should’t take me too long to Tsudanuma or into that area. I’ll be running there as fast as I can get this belly to run
Until a few years ago you could still see the diaper services’ (take dirty ones-bring fresh ones)little cars all over Japan. wonder what happened to them? Maybe some are still available?
hi there,
great work on being organised before baby comes! I was such a slacker, but caught up in the end..baby ergo (we had a similar thing) was one of the BEST things we ever invested in, we were actually lucky and got 2 as gifts..we used them to death..excellent for when you want to move around but baby isnt happy to be left in the cot or on the floor..
Hope everything else going well, curious, any cravings?
Yay for cloth diapers! As long as you don’t go with thick fitted ones you will be fine without a dryer. Also, you have less washing because they leak less than sposies.
Oh I love baby shopping too
I had so much fun this week!!! I just wish I had more disposable cash to spend… because there was so much I wanted to buy but just couldn’t afford them.
I agree with Jen, trying cloth nappies sound like a great idea. At least that way you can say you tried it and if it’s not for you, then you can easily switch to disposables. I plan on using cloth nappies as well
I am definitely up for a trip to Tokyo in September if you have room for me… I want to come and visit Khea’s baby as well!!
Baby shopping YAY! I can’t wait to see the baby’s room with the cot and accessories in it, how exciting! And I love that you are going to see sumo wrestling – Phill and I wanted to do that when we were in Japan in January but we *just* missed out – I think the night we got to Tokyo was the final round!
I’ve been terrible at keeping up with blogs these days (hands full with the wee one and all), but I swear I congratulated you. But just in case I didn’t… Congrats on all of your big news lately… the baby and the beautiful wedding!
So I am not sure if I missed it, but have you found out the sex? If you did, and you are having a boy, I would be more than happy to share some of my little one’s clothes that he has already outgrown! Most of it is American stuff… gifts from friends and family back home. He’s just entering 18 month (USA)/100 (Japan) clothing now so I have lots in those prior stages. Let me know if you are interested! But it is all boy, I can assure you, since we knew the sex ahead of time.
Hope you are feeling good! Enjoy every minute of pregnancy. It went by way too fast!
Hey Karen- thanks for the offer. Some cute little outfits would be lovely if you no longer need them?! Will get in touch
Nope… don’t need them. Due to some glitches in my preggo system, my little man is the only one I will be having. We are looking to adopt, but probably a girl. So…. I am just very happy for someone to get use out of them! Many things, he only wore once or twice because he just grew too darn fast. Email me when you get a chance!
