101 things in 1001 days update for August 09…

Well another month has passed and I didn`t do much towards my list, yet again. Definitely a good thing that I got so much done that first year as I am allowed a few months lax time now I suppose…

49. Sew my own handbag

Done. I guess it is a handbag. It is to carry my knitting projects etc so they are more portable.

Here is a picture- bit blurry though. There is another one on flickr, but this one shows the inside pocket.
Inside with pocket...

And that was the only thing I managed to cross off in July actually.

Shun & I are closer to getting our budget organized- once next pay comes in we can finalize a couple of things and will hopefully have it well under way, and working, before baby arrives.

This month my aim is to cross of AT LEAST two things on my list.  One is a definite (Sumo later this month!), and I just have to decide what other one I should cross off.

In other news- I am so exhausted these last couple of days and am wondering if I am low in iron. I hit 26 weeks this Sunday (so look out for another belly shot and baby update) and have a doctors appointment tomorrow, my last in my second trimester. I think I will ask them to check my iron levels since I am prone to being low in iron anyway. I don`t have the energy to do anything- and when I do do something, like go to do the shopping, or meet a friend, then I come home and feel as if I need to have a 4-5 hour nap. I have not been this tired since first trimester.

I wrote, just a couple of posts back, that I had received a lot of packages recently. Mum mentioned another one is on its way this week. Another thing though is that so many friends, and friends of friends, and people I have met through blogging and online forums have been so helpful to me in the last couple of months. So many people have been so generous offering up things for goma-chan etc. A huge thank you to all of you (you know who you are!)- Shun & I are so grateful! I never thought I could make so many friends through online means but it has been fantastic. Just on the weekend we went to a friend`s place to pick up a lot of baby stuff that she no longer needs for her little one including a pack and play and car seat and more. Goma-chan is one lucky baby :-)

Ps: Wrote this whole post with title 101 things in 1001 days update for July 09 and published it before realizing, crap, it was actually an update for August. Told you I was exhausted lately.

  1. Melanie

Just curious, are you taking any sort of prenatal vitamins? My mom sent me mine, but it does have iron in it.

  2. Hi Lulu. I was anemic towards the end of my pregnancies and had to take iron supplements. One warning – constipation – and it doesn’t go away. I ended up skipping the supplement every so often just to get some relief.

Also, I’ve found these articles helpful for budgeting. No pressure but it’s hard to find good advice. So…

http://www.thesimpledollar.com/ (anything by this guy is good, especially “My Story”)

    Good luck!

  3. Melanie- Yeah I am still taking Elevit, which is what the recommend in Australia- it says there is no real need to take them after 4 months BUT I have continued throughout the whole pregnancy because of the previous low iron issues. While they have iron though, I am not sure if it is enough for me as at previous times in my life I have been on double strength iron tablets just to keep my levels up high enough.

I will continue to take them until I give birth- and mum is going to bring me different ones for breastfeeding I think.

  4. Wow, double strength? Are you a vegetarian/ vegan? I was anaemic all during both pregnancies and was told to eat more steak… me thinks the doctor thought that’s the kind of meat foreigners eat but hey, medicinal steak wasn’t bad! I love sumo live- amazing!! Are you going in Tokyo? Go early as there’s heaps to look at in the building as well.

And there are quite a few non-girly Maisy books out there- Maisy’s fire engine and Maisy drives a train come to mind. Actually I’ve read the train one so many times I7ve memorised it but….

  5. Nay

Oh wow, you are going to a real sumo tournament?!?! It’s on my list as well… I have to get Naoki to start looking into it for me because I love Sumo!!

I have a couple of Maisy books as well – the one heather mentioned, Maisy’s fire engine and also one about different types of 乗り物.

How did your doctor’s appointment go today? I hope that if you are low in iron they were able to give you something! I don’t want you passing out somewhere without anybody there to help…

Your bag looks great btw!! I think I need to get some sewing lessons off you :)

  6. Love your bag and the colours:)Hope you feel more energized soon and that the doctor was able to help you out.

  7. Cute bag! I think you’re doing well to get anything done while being preggers, I was exhausted as well. I started taking iron at about 5 months into, I was fainting a lot and the doctor recommended them. Hope you’re feeling more genki soon!

  8. ditto ! bag looks great..when i was pregnant I took Blackmores breastfeeding Gold..had all the pre-natal stuff you needed plus extra once you gave birth and started breastfeeding..was pretty good..(sent from OZ of course :)

  9. Sarah- I saved your comment from the “spam” section as it had links and was stuck there for the day. Thanks for the advice- I think the prenatal vitamins I am taking have iron just not sure if I need a boost. They are going to do a blood test in two weeks to check my levels. I will definitely keep that in mind though.

Thanks also for the links- have bookmarked them both! I am a terrible budgetter and while Shun is better with money he is not so great with budgets so we are both going to have to learn.

Heather- No I eat meat. I just used to be anaemic, and then just iron deficient and my levels are always relatively low. Low enough that they never let me donate blood despite trying. The whole eating steak thing doesn`t work for me- I tried it to bring my levels up and it made no difference. Shun liked it though. LOL

Yes we are going to see it live in Tokyo this month. YAY. I am so excited. Neither of us have ever been and my friend Cat is coming to- it is our birthday present to her and she has not been either. It is going to be fun I am sure.

Will keep the non- girly maisy books in mind too.

Nay- They will check my iron next time I go. I mentioned my concern. they said I am scheduled for another blood test in two weeks (which my little coupons can be used for) so they said if I wait then it will be really cheap but if they did it yesterday it would of been over 1man so I figured I could wait the two weeks.

It seems everyone knows about these maisy books? Must check them out.

I am super excited about the sumo- it is in two weeks. I will be sure to tell you all about it.

Marianne- The material for the bag is some vintage stuff a friend gave me when she was having a huge clean-out before moving overseas. I love it and still have over a meter of it left. I think I will make some cute little pouches or something? I have one, plus the bag but they would make cute gifts I think.

Corinne- I have fainted a coupe times but not recently, touch wood. I think the baby might be taking all my iron though so might need to get a top up.

Luisa- I am still taking the Elevit but will get my mum to look into the breastfeeding gold you mentioned for after baby is born. Mum will come 26th of December and she has been sending lots of packages already but she also has stuff she is bringing in December (Ergo, cloth diapers, other medicines etc)
