30 weeks…
I reached the 30 week milestone today for this pregnancy meaning I am 3/4 of the way done give or take a week or so either way. Hard to believe that it will all be over soon although really I suppose it will just be the beginning…
30 week bump shot
Also recent ultrasound videos- I thought one of them had some 3D/4D images but they are not there?! Oh well, not like you could see much of the face except for the mouth since Goma-chan insists on having his hands up around his eyes at ALL times when been videoed.
Almost 28 weeks
Almost 30 weeks
Today I met up with some AFWJ ladies for a craft and chat event and was freaked out to hear that one of them gave birth to her second child in the car on the way to the hospital and an other had her first baby come 3 weeks early. So now I am worried the baby will come early and be born in a taxi…
I had a doctor`s appointment on Friday and all is well. Goma-chan now weighs 1.5kg or so apparently and his a little big compared to the average Japanese baby but I guess that is to be expected. Blood pressure was normal and they also took some blood. I did gain weight though- 1.8kg in 2 weeks. UH OH! Hopefully next time I have no weight gain or very little since if I start gaining 2kg every 2 weeks I am in trouble…I have now gained almost 7kg since getting pregnant I think….
I have written up my birth plan and also a couple of other questions that I want to ask but I will see an English speaking midwife next time I go to the clinic and she will help me write the birth plan in Japanese. When I booked this clinic I did not know they had English speaking staff so that has been a bit of a bonus- I have only seen her once though.
I am also booked in to go to another maternity class at 32 weeks or so. I wonder if the whole thing will be about diet again? Probably not but would be another riveting 2.5 hours if it is.
Lately the heartburn hasn`t been acting up as much but walking while holding groceries or heavy items or standing for long periods of time tires me out a bit. Also bending over to do anything is also a giant pain in the butt- especially since our pantry stuff is all UNDER the sink so it involves a bit of manouvering on my part and usually ends up with me sitting on the floor and getting what I need and then standing back up.
Goma-chan also still likes moving around alot and is most active about 8pm (after dinner) and again between 12am and 1:30am usually when I am trying to get to sleep. That said, once I am asleep I am usually fine until the alarm goes off in the morning. Trying to get to sleep is a bit of a pain only because Goma-chan is moving around so much and because of it I need to pee 3 times or so before I can actually sleep.
Nothing else to report really although the good news is that if the baby was to come anytime after now its lungs and digestive tract are pretty much mature so while he would be a little small his liklihood of survival without any issues on the outside world would be pretty great. That said, i would like him to stay put a bit longer.

oooh, natsukashiii…just seeing those scans is making me clucky again..and loving your bump!
Glad to hear all is going well and everything is in it`s place.
Was your mum`s labour long with you? (or the first born in your family)..a lot of people kept telling me I would follow in my mums footsteps on that front.
As it was, I had a 10hr labour, mum gave birth to my oldest sister with about the same time..scary considering if I was planning on bub two, I would have to figure in a delivery within the 15 min zone..(that`s how long I took to come out!!)
Luisa- The bump is certainly growing and I continue to misjudge how much space the bump requires when doing things like opening the fridge. hehe.
My mum`s labour was about 3.5 hours with me (I was first bub) and less than 2 hours with my brother- so both quite fast. I would like to follow in her footsteps if I can although if things start happening in a hurry (how would I know?) then I better get myself in a taxi to the hospital quick smart. You came in 15 minutes? WOAH!
how far away is your clinic? in most cases you have lots of ‘warning’ so i’d wager you’ll give birth in the clinic. some clues are: baby moving down (engaging). you should feel a definite change in your center of balance. another: getting smaller. i think that’s related to the baby moving down, but if you start measuring smaller (they measure your belly each visit, right?) then prepare yourself. another is: regular braxton hicks contractions, if you’re ‘lucky’ enough to have them.
of course, none of those clues point to “baby will be born in X hours” so i would pack a hospital bag at 35/36 weeks and then be on the look out.
also, never be afraid to call the clinic. they are used to it! don’t think you’re putting them out or being a pain in the butt. unless, of course, you are prepared to give birth at home.
great belly shot! 30 weeks already, i can hardly believe it!
Wow 3.5 hours? From first contraction? With me, labor started for my mom around 5am and I wasn`t born until 1148 pm. But she did say that she didn`t even go to the hospital before 8pm and was out in the father`s waiting area until 11pm.
You`re about at the same time I was when the weight started skyrocketing at every visit (hasn`t stopped yet though).
I can’t believe you are 3/4 of the way through – it seems like only last week you announced your pregnancy! So exciting.
You look great! I wouldn’t worry about giving birth in the taxi
It is quite rare for that kind of thing to happen as far as I know. I was in labour for 16 hours with Hannah and then 9 hours with Luka, so plenty of time to hurry to the hospital and then wait…quite boring..magazines might be a good idea.
As for the weight gain, I hate to say things like this, but I’m SURE you put on more weight with boys. I gained 6kg with Hannah and 13 with Luka!!! Ha ha, the peeing was also very natsukashii! I remember sitting on the toilet continuously near the end of my pregnancies. I should have got a pillow and just slept on there.
Good luck with the birth plan. Wahhhh, so exciting!
Your bump is so impressive! I can’t believe how much it has grown since last time I saw you – impossible to imagine actually. Just like Sara’s, I think your pregnancy has gone by so quickly!! Congrats on hitting the 3/4 mark, only a couple more months till you are holding your baby boy in your arms
You look FABULOUS Lulu! I too can’t believe how fast the time has gone, and soon Goma-chan will be here
xx
I was born in the car! It just makes for an extra-special story to tell at his birthday parties for years to come. You do look great!
My labor with DS was about 5 hours, but my mom had really long labors with me, like over 24 hours! I’ll be really happy if number 2 comes out faster than DS. I wouldn’t really worry about having the baby in the car or super early. Statistically 1st time moms tend to go late rather than early, I think on average about 41 weeks (although of course you’ll also hear of plenty of 1st time moms going early), and those ultra fast 15 minute in the cab labors are really rare! Of course it is good to be prepared for anything though!
You’re looking great! I’m about where you are on the weight gain, maybe a bit more since I’m at 32 weeks this week. By this time with DS I’d gained much more, so I’m feeling good about the weight gain so far, knock wood. You look fantastic too, I’m jealous! Although we’ve gained about the same amount of weight I look a lot rounder overall, probably thanks to DS.
Firstly – very belated congratulations!! You and your bump are looking fabulous. Your post really brought back memories, and it wasn’t that long ago for me.
It’s funny, as I did the first 24 weeks of my pregnancy, my doctor was at me all the time about weight gain. I thought it would be easier when I got to Australia – and my doc here turned out to be a weight nazi too! A very nice weight nazi though
