At the in-laws yesterday FIL kindly scanned in some photos for me and put them on CD. I don`t have that many baby photos of myself here in Japan and I only have a couple of Shun when he was younger that his mum gave me but it was fun looking through them and I am glad I have them digitally now…
Will be interesting which of us Goma-chan takes after when he makes his arrival…
Here is baby Shun- I am not sure how old he is in this photo but this is the youngest photo I have of him.

Here is baby Lulu- doing a similar pose to Shun above- I think I look like a boy!

Oh and lets not forget siblings
My brother & I- eating iceblocks. I still think I look like a boy, oh and yeah my brother had white hair. he was born with it. Shun thinks this might mean Goma-chan has white hair- I told him I do not like his chances (he is also praying on blue eyes but that is unlikely also!)

Shun & his brother (Shun is the younger one, there is 5 years between them)

This is my favourite photo of Shun- I think it might have been near New Years which could explain the outfit.

Here is a favourite photo of mine, of me, from when I was younger as it shows 4 generations. Left to right is my grandmother, great grandmother, my mum & me. I was 10 months old when this was taken and it was my first trip to NZ. I learnt to walk while in NZ that first time….

Just a couple more-
Shun`s grandmother (Baba) did a lot of travelling and here is Shun in an outfit she bought back from Mongolia…Can`t wait to dress Goma-chan up in ridiculous outfits and take photos of him. Shame they don`t have this one anymore!

And lastly, check out the carpet WITH the couches in this photo- Gotta love the orange and brown!

Oh and nobody guessed at the random stuff that we could possibly bring home from the in-laws (see end of last post) but here is the answer anyway and actually it was not so random this time. We came home with 2 2L bottles of water (they worry that I drink tap water because we live in an apartment meaning it is tank water but I do not want to lug mineral water home or pay for it really- eventually we will get a purifier put on the tap but honestly water is water), 2 leeks, 2 pieces or sirloin steak, some mail and Shun`s mum made him a bento for today because we were eating there meaning I wouldn`t have leftovers to make him a bento for today (and there was no way I would make something from scratch!). Anyway it was all things I will use so YAY!!!!!!

YAY! I love baby pictures! You guys were so cute!!
It’ll be really interesting to see how Goma-chan resembles.. they change so much. Everyone said Sakura looked like me when she was first born but now she looks much more like Ryohei… (you’ll be so surprised when you see her again!!)
I love your white dress in the one of you eating a biscuit!
And I have NO DOUBTS Goma-chan is going to be quite the “fashionist-o” considering he has a huge wardrobe waiting for him!
Looking at those pics and one thing is sure…..God, your baby is going to be BEAUTIFUL!!!! So looking forward to getting to know him:)
That New Years one of Shun is hilarious. And you look so much like your mom in that generation photo. Old photos are awesome.
Yeah for old photos, you guys were so cute and Shun’s brother looks like a lot of fun.
Ad the couch? Do you think there was an era when there was only one kind of couch available in Australia? I swear everyone had that couch when I was little.
Cute old photos! Love these, and Shun looks so cute. I do like the one photo of you with your brother. You don’t look like a boy. I think you looked so cute, and your expression says, “Yeah, so what? You wanna fight about it?”
Awww those photos are so cute. Goma-chan is going to be one beautiful boy.
Those old couches look better than the ones my parents had, ugly black and white things and the sad thing is they are sitting in their basement waiting to be trashed and its been more than 15 years since they got new ones!
Awh, so sweet! I love the couches too. You don’t look like a boy at all!
I just got to see albums of S’s baby pics – revenge! as my mum showed him all mine when he visited earlier this year. There was a hilarious one of him for his 百日記念 (100days after birth) where he’s in a chair, facing towards the camera, completely stark bollock naked! I told him that we will not be putting any future sons through the indignity of having their chinchin immortalised in a photo that you send to other family members…
Gorgeous photos! It will be fun to see who goma chan resembles the most when he is born. I was expecting the Japanese genes to win over but was still surprised when Liam was born with jet black hair and lots of it. He was born with blue eyes tho so Shun’s wish may come true. They did change to brown by the time he was about 1 though.
I think I looked like a boy when I was little too. My brother is only 16 months younger than me and was always quite big so we were mistaken for boy twins lol.
Don`t worry I looked like a boy too when I was little, of course I was more or less bald until I was 1, so that probably didn`t help. I like looking at T`s baby photo of his 100 day shot, he looked like one of those troll dolls from the 90`s with lots of hair sticking straight up and the chubbiest cheeks you have ever seen. Of course his cheeks are still kind of on the chubby (thicker) side.
T is also hoping to miraculously have a blond blue eyed baby. I told him the chances of that happening are fairly slim, possible but don`t get your hopes up too high. Maybe blue-esque eyes when born but those will probably change as she gets older.
Hopefully your doing well and still taking things easy
You and Shun were adorable babies, I bet Goma-chan is going to be super cute as well!
DH never had a single picture of himself taken until he was about 13 years old. They didn’t have cameras in the village back then, so there really are no old family photos. It is sort of sad that there aren’t any baby pictures of him or his brothers out there. Most of my old baby pics are back in the States, but my parents brought a few over last time they visited. I think DS looks a bit like I did when I was a baby, but more Asian, which is interesting because I think he looks more like grown up Dh than he does grown up me.
I did the same thing with some old photos as well!! i went to nana’s and went through her photos and had such a good time looking through them!! Did you know that they have photo albums dedicated to the Rafter children from birth to now? Some of them you have used in the blog!! I said they should send them to you.
I should send you some of the ones I’ve scanned esp Nana and Grandad when they got married.
Hope all is going well for you!! Can’t wait to see your young man!!!
Hi Laura,
I just want you to know that lounge was in your father’s unit until we got married, it was never my choice and just inherited, and the carpet was in the house when we brought it!!! you’ll be pleased to know that the walls in the lounge kitchen and hallway were all different colours, I mean each wall in each room was a different colour, anyway that was one of the first things we did when we moved in, painted the walls all one colour!!! It was nice to see a comment from your cousin Allanah on the blog, she’s right, you should see if kiwi nana can send you some photo’, if you want some more from me just say so and I will brush off the dust and send them on… Lots of love mum.
