Cold snap…

Japan has been hit with a cold snap- I am guessing it was about 13 or 14 degrees here in Chiba but it was much colder in other parts- some friends even mentioned snow in their recent facebook updates. Not sure if Chiba will be seeing snow anytime soon if at all this year but winter is well on the way and it has left me asking where did Autumn go?

I didn`t go outside today (except to hang out laundry- yes I am just THAT exciting!) but it was even cool inside and I had to find some socks to help thaw out my freezing feet.

I still have a cold but I think we can safely say it is not the flu as I had no temperature at all and despite taking it numerous times a day (Shun rang a couple times from work yesterday for an update and to check what my temperature was, so seriously I think I took my temp 6 times or so yesterday alone!) it has not gone above 37.5- which is hardly a fever. Does anyone know if Japanese people`s body temps are supposed to be so much lower than the average westerner? My standard temperature is about 36.8 but if Shun get`s that kind of fever he goes a little nuts…His standard temperature is 36.1 or 36.2 which seems quite low to me. I still have a sore throat and stuffy nose but I think it is getting better, at least I hope so. Problem is I now have a bit of a cough, which is always the way with me- whenever I get a cold it always ends up in my chest as asthma. Hopefully it doesn`t get too bad…

Public holiday in Japan today meant Shun was home from work- we had made plans to go to Lalaport and see a movie but because I am still a bit under the weather we decided to pass. Sarah will be glad to know that I took her advice and started downloading Flashforward and I like it- so does Shun so we watched a couple of episodes of that together. Always hard to find English programs Shun will watch with me, especially when they have no subtitles.

Last night I also got word that my friend Melanie had her little girl, Misora Rose! I was so excited when the message came through on my phone with a picture and details!!!! I can not wait to meet her but because they will be down in Yamaguchi for 4 more weeks or so it seems unlikely we will meet until after Goma-chan arrives since we live on the opposite sides of the city.

I have a feeling that Goma-chan will be born at exactly 37 weeks (22 Nov) or that he will be 6 days late (19 Dec)- I know those dates are almost 4 weeks apart but I think I must have dreamt it or something but not remembered dreaming it. Is it weird that I think this?

Aussie blog friend Amanda has provided me with many many many facebook messages telling me what to do next with my quilt stuff for Goma-chan so I am thinking I might get stuck into that over the next couple of days. I will eventually need to buy some backing material though but luckily the itoyakado in town has a small material/craft section. Thanks to Amanda for explaining what I need to do in great detail- I think she should do a post on her blog for other would be quilters! Honestly, I am sure I will actually be able to do it now that I actually know what is involved. I am just hoping I do not get too frustrated and quit…

Blogging via email on my phone does not seem to be an option for me at the moment because I use an older version of wordpress and am not wanting to upgrade at the moment- plus my blog is hosted on a server in Australia and my host has mentioned there are some bugs in the later version so I am waiting for a more stable version to come out and upgrade. This means though that when Goma-chan does arrive his “He is here” post might not come until AFTER I get out of the hospital- the good news is though I can update my facebook via my phone so anyone that is friends on facebook will know when he is here!! I can log onto my blog from my phone but only if I use the more expensive browser with cookies enabled and I am just not sure on how much that costs so it might not be the best idea. Oh well, I am sure you can all wait 5 or 6 days for the news!!

I think it’s funny how you have these very specific dates for Goma-chan, but can’t remember how you arrived at them. A dream would make sense, even if you can’t remember it. Speaking of dreams, I dreamed recent of a pygmy man being kept in a zoo, and he was biting my head. Moving swiftly on…

Hooray for Amanda providing you with lots of quilt-making info. She is a lovely, obliging girl, isn’t she? ;) Hopefully quilt making well help keep you busy and keep your mind off the enforced resting.

As for body temperatures, I’ve not heard before anything like different nationalities having different levels of normal — it could just be that Shun is one end of the scale on what is normal? Who knows, it might be worth looking into, though.

It was 5!!!! degrees when I got back to Niigata yesterday…. OMFG

Glad to hear you liked Flash Forward!! I’m finding it really interesting as well… I wish Ryohei understood more English so we could watch it together but like you said without subtitles I think he gets too frustrated.

You know, if you want you can designate someone like Nay or I to be your “designated” baby blog and have one of us at least post when Goma-chan is here. You could save the big birth post with his name and details and pictures for your own blog when you get home but if you wanted people to know you had him maybe Nay will post it for you (I would also as long as I am still in Japan)

I really hope today will be warmer…. its FREEZING!!!! Gosh I can’t believe Goma-chan will be here in so soon – I really hope he’s not 6 days late!! That would be quite the long haul lol.

VERY chilly!! I got on my knee high fluffy house socks hehe <3
Hope you can get rid of your cold and keep it away though~~ Glad that’s all it is. =)

Don’t worry about not blogging from the hospital. I couldn’t figure it out either but you all let everyone else know through FB for me, and it’s only a week anyways! We just wanna meet him already! Misora-chan is too cute eh? AND YOU’RE NEXT!

Looking forward to seeing you on Friday.

I’ve never heard about difference in national body temperature. Individuals have slightly different base temperatures though, and different methods (oral, anal, under-arm) record slightly different temperatures too. In addition, different thermometers records different temperatures, and your body temperature is almost never static, starting low and going higher in the evening and when you are ill, the temperature goes up and down constantly!

Phew! Which is to say you’re both normal.

I don’t think half a degree is anything to worry about, but if you’re pg, best to stay on the safe side and check. Flu can manifest in some people as a long-term low-grade fever and more-than-usual tiredness.

It definitely did get cold awfully quick, didn’t it!! It’s nowhere near as cold as Chiba here though – we are still in our low 20’s but the wind is freezing!! I’m pulling out our doona and blanket today because the nights are getting quite chilly…

I haven’t heard either that different nationalities have different body temperatures but like Shun, Naoki does have a lower body temperature than me. I think you and I are on the higher side of average!!

I have only seen the pictures Melanie has posted on her blog of Misora but she is so adorable!! Like Khea said, you are next!! I can’t wait to finally meet goma-chan!!

I guess you could update your facebook page and get some friends with blogs to relay the news on their blogs even. But we can wait. :) Not long to go now!!

I provided you with *one* Facebook message… it’s not my fault facebook said it was too long and I had to cut it down into many parts. I started doing it up as a video tutorial a couple of days ago, so maybe it’ll make an appearance on my blog at some point :) Good luck with the quilt making, can’t wait to see it!

nny, it’s suddenly started warming up here, at least it’s not windy and overcast all the time any more. I’m beginning to get a bit scared about going into the Northern Hemisphere winter!

Wow it sounds so cold over there! I’m waiting for the temps here in the US to start getting colder since it’s November, but then where I live we had snow showers in early October!

I also watch Flash Forward, it’s a very interesting show, it keeps you watching that is for sure.

I’m sure people just have different normal temperatures, anytime I feel like I have a fever I check it and it’s always close to normal, it’s so strange!

Glad to hear you don’t have the flu but make sure you get your needed rest :)

The 19th would be the day of the Bonenkai. So maybe the joking about taking our hospital bags and having it close to a taxi stop helped you “choosing” this day?
I have no idea for the November date though.

DH also has a very low temperature, like 35.something while I am at 36.8 or so.
A half Japanese friend at Uni told me, that she felt really awful when having something that the surrounding German friends would not even consider a real temperature, and much less a fever.
