Dull…

Boring day today due to the rain. I was supposed to meet a friend for coffee at Funabashi station since she would be passing through (she lives way out past Chiba station) but I decided going out in the rain would not be a great idea since I am still coughing a little with the chest infection- bit disappointed really because I have no other plans now for awhile meaning I will be stuck at home.

Shun has been working later and later these last couple of weeks with things getting busier on the project he is working on. He has come home around 11pm the last 2 nights. I did ring him at work yesterday to tell him to keep his phone on him though because I was having regular braxton hicks with some pain from 2pm onwards- they didn`t stop until I went to sleep last night but the pain didn`t intensify at all so didn`t think too much of it. Today they haven`t really returned so am guessing all is okay! I have a doctor`s appointment on Saturday anyway so I am sure they will check to see if the baby is on his way or not. I rang Shun again about 9pm to tell him something else and he was like “akachan kiteiru? daijyoubu” (Is the baby coming? Are you okay) and I was like “oh no sorry to scare you, I am ringing about something else now…” hahaha. I guess he is starting to get worried.

Me, I am not so worried yet about giving birth. In fact my biggest fear is actually having my water break in public and looking like I peed myself. I know the chances of this are slim but still I am scared. Plus Shun said Japanese people will just ignore me if this happens which I think is worse and scaring me more!!!

I should of done the washing yesterday because now it looks as if the rain is sticking around til the weekend meaning I will need to wash tomorrow but hang everything up inside the house which is just not as nice. Plus it takes so much longer for things to dry. Melanie talked about how she had to go buy some disposable diapers for her new bub because of the weather and no access to a dryer down at her in-laws place- I have some cloth diapers to use with Goma-chan but haven`t bought that many yet because I want to make sure I will use them before investing too much money in them and we have a pack and a half of newborn disposable diapers ready to go as well (the half pack came from a friend, her little boy grew out of them before she used the whole pack). Not sure how I will do with cloth diapers since we do not have a dryer either yet I know drying them in sunlight is the best thing for them. Anyone else use cloth diapers? I have bumgenius ones but debating whether I should buy more before baby comes or not- thinking it will be best to hold off for now! I have no idea why I said diapers throughout that whole paragraph considering I am Australian and we say nappies….

I did work on Goma-chan`s quilt today. I did the actual quilting so now all of the parts are sewn together and it has turned out okay I think (ie, the backing, quilting inside part and the front patchwork part are now all sewn together). I have pinned the binding on but just need to sew it all on tomorrow or Friday and will then be done- I cheated and ended up buying ready made binding because the thought of having to cut it all up was enough to give me a headache. I like the idea of doing it myself but knew I lacked patience!!! Might need to go back to working on the knitted hat for the baby after that since I have no other craft projects on the go at the moment apart from the baby hat and the quilt.

Spent the rest of the day surfing the net, watching American dramas (The Good Wife, NCIS, CSI Miami, Gossip Girl) and reading. Quite dull actually! Attempting to blog everyday leaves me with not much to say when I do blog I guess.

Good idea to stay warm and dry at home today. So,the Braxton icks are still around then? But as each day passes, the better it is for Goma-chan,so you are doing great.Made me LOL hearing Shun’s slight panic when you called him;I forgot all about that happening…every time you call him unexpectedly now,he will think its “time”.

And I also remember being more worried ,with Annie, about the public water-breaking than the birth.Do you think we are in a minority??!

RE:nappies.I use disposable nappies over the weekends(dont as!) but cloth during the week for daycare.I use the Japanese type cloth nappies(plus covers) and we have about 30 in stock(use a pair at a time) so usually do a wash a day just to be safe.Drying is a major bummer so if you want to use cloth, you need quite a good stock if you don’t have a drier. On a cold and cloudy days, they can take 24 hours to dry out.Make sure you have a good drying rack though AND,once the toyu stove is out,it is great to dry the nappies and add some well needed humidity to the dry air:)

It was crappy weather today wasn’t it? So dark and gloomy this morning, really made it hard to get going.

I’ve been watching The Good Wife too – not really into law programmes usually but I like Julia Margulies (sp? Carol Hathaway!) and it’s good to see her on TV again as I hadn’t really been aware of her doing anything big since er. I gave up on Gossip Girl a couple of episodes into this season as I just stopped enjoying it. Probably no bad thing ;)

Hope you have a more interesting day tomorrow (although not public water-breaking interesting mind!)

Marianne: maybe I should look into some of the Japanese cloth diapers then? Probably A LOT cheaper than the ones I have. I kind of want a dryer but we really dont have the space for one where we are which is a shame. I would be a much better housewife if I had a dryer I am sure. haha.

I am not sure we are in a minority but I am definitely freaked out about the possibility of water breaking in public. Although I know the chances are VERY slim. Shun didnt help much by saying Japanese people wouldnt help me if it happened.

Umebossy: OMG, I just realized it is Carol Hathaway. I knew that I knew her from something but hadn`t really thought much about it. Man, I loved ER. I think you are right though and she hasn`t really done anything big since then. I have so much time on my hands that I have been watching drama`s I don`t even like much- I did download the first season of one called Being Erica or something like that and HATED it though. So not watching that anymore.

Tomorrow is set to be another boring day. Oh well! I should do some cleaning and more quilting…

Did you know that for most people the water actually doesn’t break until you’re in active labor? I think mine broke when I was just about ready to start pushing, when I was about 9cm. I always expected water breaking to be one of the “signs” and I only found out later that it isn’t as common as we think. We always see on TV and the movies that the water breaking is the first part but I think that is mostly just Hollywood drama. So maybe you can take some comfort in the fact that your water breaking before you know you’re in labor is actually pretty unlikely. :)

The weather here has been pretty icky too, but at least it is snow, which is pretty while it lasts. The problem is when the snow is gone and it turns into dirty grey slush! I hope you stay warm and cozy over there in Japan.

Jessica- Oh I know it is an unfounded fear. It is just weird that that is my biggest fear about giving birth and not the actual, you know, squeezing a watermelon out of sometime the size of a plum. LOL.

Snow here turns to dirty grey slush too. Tokyo/Chiba are not made for nice snowy days… I can not believe Beijing has had so much snow lately though, and so early! No sign of snow here yet and not even sure if we will get any this winter.

I would say that unless the Dr breaks your water (which doesn`t really hurt, mine said it would though) you probably don`t need to worry about that happening.

Yes, if you cloth diaper I would say you need at least a three day supply on hand due to the drying as I am finding out rather quickly.

Thought of something else you might want to get for your hospital bag, a squirt bottle of some kind (or reuse the dish washing liquid ones, but without the soap). They were great for after birth when you need to use the toilet but you don`t really want to use toilet paper. My hospital had bidets but I found they really don`t go towards the front very well and squirting some nice warm water down there definitely makes one feel a bit cleaner.

That last week, T would ask me every night if he thought the baby would come soon so I can understand Shun worrying everytime he recieves any sort of contact from you. Hopefully Goma-chan will stick around for a bit more (your almost to the 37 week mark)

    ohisashiburi!

Not impressed with this weather either… clothes don’t seem to be drying when it’s a fine day anyway… I’m guessing the cool air means they retain the moisture? Looks like i’m going to have to do evening runs to MIL’s house to dry clothes in her tumble dryer… nooo!

About the nappies though, As Sakura was born on in winter (and goma-chan’s due date ! :P )
I didn’t end up using the cloth nappies I had bought… I felt very lazy… but honestly the disposables did me just fine. They didn’t dry properly outside and the dryer seemed to make them crispy!? (even with fabric softener) I couldn’t find anything like napisan or SARD… I STILL haven’t!! So I didn’t like the idea of using bits of cloth with poo stains for my child… I know they WERE clean, but they didn’t look clean. and I’m a bit of a clean freak like that….

As for your fear… that was also my biggest fear while pregnant… the thought of water breaking in public gave me nightmares… So when my clinic said they wanted to schedule me for the induction because they were VERY busy.. I jumped at the chance!!! I didn’t want to be at home with Riki’s brothers and god forbid something start creeping out of my hoo-ha… or even worse… out at the mall… or… the car!?! nooooo! when it got closer to my scheduled date (and i was already dilated 3 or 4 cm) I bought maternity pads and wore one incase my waters broke…I know in reality, a pad would do fuck all… but i FELT safe… ahaha

I don`t know why my extra comment came out as an author of nutrition supplements…..weird.

But yeah, squirt bottles are very nice

  10. Lulu, 12. November 2009, 19:04

Melanie, don`t worry about it. I think it was spam- and someone just copied and pasted it in there with a link to an Aussie site selling supplements. I deleted it anyway!! I will look for a squirt bottle over the weekend!!!

Sophie- The word Hoo-ha always cracks me up. I know the chances of my water breaking before I am in active labour is HIGHLY unlikely but still scary thought. Poo stained diapers are something that scare me too! Even though they are clean like you say…I have napisan here in Japan (buy and send!) BUT you shouldn`t use it on cloth diapers that are All in one like the type I have which is abit of a shame.

Sorry you couldn’t go out yesterday but it definitely sounded sensible to stay inside and warm until you are 100 percent better! I hope you had the sun we had down here in Yamaguchi today. Looks like rain again tomorrow though which is no fun at all. Does it usually rain this much in November?

I am sure a Japanese person would help you if you waters broke when you were out and about. Anyone who is a mother would have to! I don’t remember when my waters broke but have had a couple of friends who have had them break in kind of strange places. My good Aussie friend here had hers break in the middle of the night in bed which would have been a shock.

Here’s hoping you have a normal labor contraction induced labor! My major fear was that I wouldn’t know what contractions were and when they actually did start it took me a while to figure out what they really were. I did have a sore back the night before though so that might have been hint too.
