- The news that my SIL is pregnant!!! Hoping everything goes well for Aneki & Kazumi!
- The news that Ichihashi, accused of killing Lindsay Ann Hawker a british English teacher more than 2.5 years ago, was caught. He had been on the run that entire time and he is now behind bars.
- Strawberries- got some at the market the other day! Yum, I love strawberries!
- Yoga pants. So comfty!
- New recipes like the risotto one I shared on the weekend. Plus getting new recipes to try from friends!
- Email from my cousin Allannah in NZ- Allannah sometimes reads my blog so I hope she reads this! Was lovely to get an email from you!
- My husband deserves a special mention because over the weekend when I was really sick he cleaned up the house and organized dinner and cleaning up! Plus he made a special trip to my maternity clinic to get me some medicine!
- Crossing the final things off our list of things we needed before Goma-chan arrived- Finally got another pair of PJs for the hospital and bought some disposable diapers for newborns. Everything else was crossed off!
- The drama “The Good Wife” – really enjoying it!
- Old episodes of ER- watched the pilot today. I had forgotten how hot George Clooney was/is.
- Finally, finishing off the quilt for Goma-chan- here is the finished product
I am not the best sewer in the world and this is far from a professional looking quilt but I am so proud of myself for completing it and I am sure Goma-chan won`t notice that the stitching isn`t straight everywhere now will he?!
What things are you loving this Thursday?

Great job! Seriously- it looks great. Plus, look at your awesome mitred corners on the binding! Goma-chan isn’t going to care if it’s not perfect, and it’ll get used to death. You’ve successfully managed all the major parts of making a quilt- each different top design brings it’s own challenges, so that’s a constant learning curve
I must do my TILT for this week!
You had lots of great things this week
Yoga pants – invented for pregnant women and not for skinny women doing downward facing dog.
‘the Good wife’ – read that too fast and thought shit someones made a drama of my life.
Yay for getting all the baby stuff sorted. I hope your hospital PJs are a matching trouser and long dress type top set – preferrably in check or stripe??
the quilt is fab!!
LOVE the quilt, it’s sooo cute. You should go into business making them
GW: Haha, i bought these yoga pants when I was doing Yoga and walking in Australia to lose weight but I do love them! I only have 2 pairs and most of the time I alternate between them on the days I am home- just so great! I am taking them with me to the hospital.
My hospital PJs. None of them are check…I have three pairs. One from mum in Australia, one I bought online from a maternity shop and then the last pair I bought from uniqlo and they are not really PJS but the ones they had at akachan honpo the arms and legs were too short on all of them! Stupid!
Kelly: Thank you! I am so very proud of it but trust me, it is far from professional looking up close! I have a very simple machine and didn`t even buy a quilting foot to use with it- I think if I was going to make another one I would have to because the thread on one side is a bit wonky due to the thickness of it.
Luckiliy the baby won`t notice the mistakes or crooked lines!!!! hehe
oh no- you *don’t* have matching pastel check pyjamas with at least a frilled pocket- preferably a frilled hem or too? goma-chan may be traumatised for life at the shame…. And too short for you? My dear, I squished my 176cm frame into the cutesiest pink frilly gingham you’ve ever seen. And if Sharia law was suddenly called during the 5 days I was in hospital I would have been fine as It was a neck to knee deal… Seriously though, with Amy I wore a t-shirt and a sarong. Turned a few heads but I was sooo comfy and checkups were a cynch! And my frangipani print sarong made me smile which is important, too!
Your husband is a keeper. Encourage housework and cooking skills now to be in good form for when two become three!
Love that quilt! Goma Chan will love it a be very proud of his Mummy for making it! Good idea to use bigger sized squares on your first attempt at quilting!
Yeah, what is up with Japanese maternity pjs. I lucked out and must have found the last pair of short sleeve ones at the store (for 199 yen no less, if I must wear crappy pjs at least I wont spend a fortune on them) because the hospital was so freaking hot. I swear I was sweating the majority of the time. The one positive I will give them is the super easy access to the boobies.
As for the panties that open up at the crotch, that was a waste of money because anytime anyone needed to see down there I had to take everything off anyways. I could have at least has some undies that fit me and weren`t squeezing into my thighs.
Two thumbs up to your DH cleaning and running errands that you need to do.
Firstly, Amanda, sorry your comment got caught in moderation and I just rescued it now. I would not have been able to do such a great job with the quilt without all of your information and support (and answering all of my silly questions!) so thank you! I am happy with how it turned out but can already see where I could improve and how to imrpove if I was to make another so it was a great learning experience. Look forward to reading your TILT!
Heather: I bypassed the matching check PJs! But colour wise one pair is pink and one pair is purple but they are nice pinks and purples and not the crappy ones you usually see here. The other set I got from uniqlo are not really PJs but the top on them is long, almost to my knees (as requested by hospital!) and the bottom is just track pants and it is in black and cream. I think it is hilarious that they have PJs designed for hospital stays after birth- I did cave and buy some of the velcro pants though. Just in case. ALl the PJs I have though are BF friendly which is nice.
You are 176cm tall? Wow I am only 171cm or so but there is no way my arms would fit. Maybe I have long arangatan arms?
Katie M: Oh yeah little squares scared me way too much! hahaha! I am pleased with how it turned out and might attempt to make another. Some day. LOL. I have a lot of material left I could use to make squares and I have the rotary cutter now which makes it a bit easier- would definitely need a different foot for the machine though I think.
Melanie: Damn shame about the velcro pants. I already have some now. haha. I only bought a pack of 2 pairs though because hospital provides another 2 pairs in our “goodie bag” . I am worried about been too hot at the hospital a little too- they seem to have the heat on so high all the time…I have tank tops packed in my bag as well JUST IN CASE.
The other PJs I have are quite nice (one is Aussie one is American) and I will use them this winter. I was not going to buy PJs that I would NEVER wear again which is why the final pair that I bought at uniqlo- while i might not use top half much the bottom half will be great!
Wauw, I love that quilt you made! I’ve decided to make one for my sister for christmas. Huge task and little scary since I’m known for being unpatient and tending to work sloppy but I’m so excited!
Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!
