Officially late…
I was officially 40 weeks yesterday and still no sign of Goma-chan but it did mean that I was at home yesterday when Benay & Naoki visited before going to pick up her mum from the airport. So Nay joined me for a “bump” shot so that we can show Baby N and Goma-chan that they were friends even before birth. Nay is 24 weeks pregnant today and I was 40 weeks yesterday so there you have it- that is a 16 weeks difference shot. My bump looks like it is going to jump on Baby N, tackle it and squash it to death it is so big.
I went to the doctor`s today- I had hoped (like all mum`s in there final weeks of pregnancy) that the baby would be born before the appointment today but no such luck. My MIL came and picked me up and drove me to the clinic- she is a very nervous driver (and passenger) and we got lost about 7 times on the way there even though she has driven me before and she kept asking me if I thought she should turn down this street or that street and of course I had no idea. Oh and she has a car navi so I put the address in for her but she prefers to guess aimlessly about which way to go so doesn`t really follow it.
Funnily enough we arrived 10 minutes early and I took my blood pressure and was shocked to see it at 157/80 as it has NEVER been that high before. The nurse made me take it again 5 minutes later and it was already down to 140/72 which is within safe range apparently- she asked if I had been stressed on my way over. I told my MIL it must have been her driving! hehehe
I gained no weight this week (FINALLY!) but I gained so much at my last appointment- so in total I gained 12.5kg for my first pregnancy-more than half of that was in the last 8 weeks (SCARY!). More than I had hoped (11-12kg was my own personal limit but unfortunately went over) but considering I had 4 weeks on medication for pre-term labour and couldn`t get out and about much during that time I am not too stressed about it. Hopefully I will lose at least half before I leave the hospital and the last bit will come off in the months following- that is what I keep telling myself anyway.
Baby was genki/happy- had moved down a little bit more and an internal showed I was dilated somewhere between 1-2cm. Doctor seems to think baby will be born in about a week and suggested inducing me on Tuesday or Wednesday next week if baby hadn`t arrived before then but I asked to be induced next Monday if baby hasn`t arrived since then I will get out of the hospital on the Friday or Saturday in time for my mum`s arrival on Saturday 26th Dec (she speaks no Japanese and I think it would be best if I was home by the time she arrived- obviously if it doesn`t work out that way then I can`t do much about it but if they were going to induce me anyway the next day then a day earlier probably wouldn`t make much difference). So if contractions don`t start before Monday 21st December then I will be arriving at my clinic by 9am to be induced at 41weeks 1 day.
Have tried getting the party started myself by drinking loads of pineapple juice (cheaper than actual pineapples), some spicy food when I can, walking, stairs, squats, raspberry leaf tea, sex, reflexology and I am sure I have tried other things too- Nothing has worked much although most of the things above do cause braxton hicks contractions (which I still get frequently) which I am hoping is aiding in dilating me further before baby comes.
Goma-chan is now officially late and I for one, just want to meet him so hope he gets his butt into gear and makes his way into the world sometime this week!!!

I don’t know, Ithink your bump looks good
I (still!) hope Goma-chan makes his way down very, very soon, and that you’ll have him here in good time before your Mum arrives!
You and Nay look great together!! Nay actually looks ‘big’ in real life so ….. anyway she looks small next to you!!! Don’t worry weight disappears quickly but shape takes a little longer to go back to where it sorta came from!!!
Babies have a funny habit of surprising people so Goma chan will turn up when he’s ready, probably when you want to do something else!! Just like you the doc told me I would be induced in one weeks time and she was born a measly 8 hours later. Don’t underestimate your little boy.
We’re all waiting to hear your news, try to enjoy the labor as much as possible!!!
Great belly shots! And Goma-chan will be here on Friday…Annie has spoken;)
That is a very impressive bump! You both look lovely – how nice it will be for your kiddies to play together
Hey, you`re ahead of where I was at 40 weeks which was locked tighter than Fort Knox. 1-2 cm is still 1-2cm ahead of the game, meaning you only have 8cm to go. Have you tried foot massages. There`s a spot thats on the inside of the foot in the crevis (spelling?) of your ankle and that little bone that sticks out. You`ll have to do some searching for it but if you press it real good it kind of hurts, thats the spot you want to rub. Get Naoki to do it for you. Even if it doesn`t start contractions up at least it will give you breathing practice for labor.
We are waiting anxiously to hear that Goma-chan is making his arrival!!
wow!!! look at that bump shot!! impressive!
Sakura was born at 41 weeks exactly and that last week was pure torture… hopefully goma will show up before his evicition on the 21st but if not rest assured that you will probably be holding him this time next week!! can’t believe it!!
glad you had fun with nay!!
it’ll be fun to take another picture this time next year with babies in all different sizes
xx
I’ve never gone over a due date so no advice on what position to shag or at wha temperature to drink your rasberry leaf tea at. I sent some of the tea to my sister who was pregnant with her first and it all got confiscated at immigration – wonder why
That photo is great. I forgot how far you really do stick out with number one – and number two. And I guess number three but I had a bit of extra padding by then. I like what achan said – that losing the weight is OK – it’s the getting your body shape back that is the hard part.
I hope your stairclimbing and walks help gomachan (illahee told me swinging?!!).
How exciting. So so soon.
Good luck.
I just love the photo of the two (four?) of you – both you and Nay look great! I think you did a great job with the 12.5kg, you look fabulous…I put on about 13kg, I think, but K was 2 weeks early….
c’mon Goma-chan!!
You look radiant. I didn’t see an update for afew days and thought, maybe….
Here is hopig labour comes tomorrow.
Fabulous bump picture!!
Sorry to hear that you are late but I am sure he will turn up soon! Sending “hurry up” vibes in your direction!! (HUGS)))
Love the bump shot! You still look so well.
And that’s hilarious about the MIL induced blood pressure.
12.5kg is very respectable for weight gain, I don’t know how much I put on because I stopped weighing myself after 10kg and they didn’t do it at the hospital… but that was at about 36 weeks and I’m sure I put on a few more kilos in the last few weeks. Hopefully Goma-chan will be a really good feeder, because that makes it easier to loose the weight after.
I hope he is born on Friday too, because that’s my birthday
I was induced on the 18th because Mum was sick of waiting and the obstetrician was going on holidays!
Not long to go now!!
Both B and A were 4 days late so I can empathise with the torture of being overdue you must be feeling at the moment. Don’t worry, pregnancy WILL eventually end! lol
Fingers crossed for a speedy labour.
Lulu!! Your tummy is so cute! I gained over 15kg each time so don’t give yourself a hard time. I went more than a week overdue with my first and fourth pregnancy and the best thing is to keep busy. Sitting home is the worst because it just reminds you that you’re waiting for an unknown moment to occur.
You look fabulous! I’m sure your weight gain is all in your bump and it will come off in no time after you give birth. Hope goma chan decides to make his appearance very soon! Liam was 8 days late and I tried all sorts of stuff as well. Hope something works for you! Can’t wait to hear your announcement and to see some photos.
I was going to put that picture up on my blog as a ‘wordless wednesday’ – it definitely is self explanatory, lol!! I can’t believe how non existent my bump looks up against yours!!
The last few mornings I have woken up and the first thing I think is, ‘oh maybe today is going to be the day’ and have been waiting impatiently to get a message from you to say you are labour! I hope you do go into labour naturally in the next day or so because I am anxiously waiting to meet my ‘nephew’…
Sending you lots of ‘bring on labour’ vibes!!
I am hoping for a December 17th birth … so Goma-chan will share my birthday!
Wow! That is a very impressive bump! It was only a year ago, but I’ve already forgotten what it was like to have such a big tummy. I’m rooting for a Friday birthday, as that is Sara’s, and then Goma-chan will have had the same due date AND birthday as Sara. If it works out that way it would be interesting to compare the dates they were conceived
Hi Laura,
I am hoping for the 21st as it is my birthday then as well. Will be having dinner with Mum and Helen on that night. You look beautiful and babies tend to come only when they are ready.
I know Mum is so looking forward to being with you and do a little spoiling of you all.
Aunty Gayle
Wow! Careful you don’t poke someone’s eye out with that bump! Hope you get to meet Goma chan soon though =) And I hope with all my heart you he comes naturally, and you don’t need to be induced. But either way, it’ll be worth it and soon forgotten. (Btw, I lost 6kg by the time I left the hospital. You’ll manage! 12.5 isn’t too bad.)
That is such a sweet idea with the photo, what a great and memorable shot <3 Nay’s looking great too! Good luck!
Aww that’s such a cute picture and a great idea! The two of you look so cute together
That bump is all baby for sure. Can’t wait for him to show himself to the world. I’ll be checking daily to see if you don’t post in hopes he’s arrived
What a great Christmas present!
