or which doctor, as the case may be.
Several weeks ago I wrote about an issue I was having with the city government town nurse and also the issues I was having with the clinic I had been going to when sick and where I had been taking Noah for his immunizations. I was unhappy with the clinic in general even before these issues came up so I was on the hunt for a new one.
Shun had already contacted a different clinic (one that was recommended to me by a Japanese friend in the area) and scheduled Noah`s next immunization but late last week I got another throat infection and I knew it wasn`t going to go away without antibiotics so I made an appointment for Saturday morning.
I had the same thing about 2.5 months ago and the doctor I went to said it was strep. I am not sure if it was or not though since they didn`t take a swab to test it or anything. It came back though so off to the doctors I went. This time to inspect the new clinic.
Overall I was very happy. Although I did have the song “Witch doctor” in my head the entire time.
Shun came with me and he had Noah in the carrier but he spent most of the time outside walking around because we didn`t want Noah to get sick from others in the waiting room (all kids by the way, I was the only adult patient- I guess they don`t see many adults either because when they called me in they called me by my surname then first name-chan as opposed to -san and then the receptionist yelled at the nurse- “no, no, m***-san, m***san” which was kind of funny.
The doctor I saw was very nice. He took a look at my throat and said “sugoi” (WOW!) and claimed it the worst throat infection he had ever seen. He even called in the other doctor, an older doctor (maybe in his late 50s), to have a look too. Kind of weird because it is not even the sorest throat I have had but anyway- It is pretty sore though and very red with white spots all over it (so gross!). Anyway they dosed me up on some drugs and said that since I had been sick a couple times since Noah was born that I might be lacking vitamins because I am breastfeeding so recommended I start taking some vitamins of mainly vitamin c and b. This is the second throat infection I have had and I have also had 2 or 3 colds?
The doctor asked if I had stopped eating because my throat was so sore and I said it took more than a sore throat to stop me eating. If only!!! I wish I was one of those people that when sick lost appetite and didn`t eat- I would be so skinny of that was the case! Instead I think I might even eat MORE when I am sick.
Both doctors seemed lovely, and the nurse on staff that day was a younger lady (not like the old nosy biddies at my other clinic!) and the receptionists seemed nice too. It was a pretty small place and packed on Sunday and I waited for 40 minutes to be seen. I had an appointment though and most others who arrived before me were still waiting when I left because those with appointments get seen first.
I think taking Noah there for his immunizations and eczema will be fine. And of course any other time he get sick or needs to see the doctor.
I was wondering though, what you used to get when you went to the doctors as a kid? We always got jelly beans. This clinic gives out stickers to the kids- INCLUDING keroppi stickers. I love keroppi!!! I kind of wanted to ask for some for myself…

Hooray for better doctor than the last one!!
Wow you poor thing… I can’t imagine how crappy your throat must have looked (no offence!) for the doctor to declare it the worst one he’d ever seen.
Very happy you find a nice place after that last experience… still reeling from that whole city nurse debacle you had.
Hopefully the meds will help you feel better and the vitamins will keep you healthy!
That’s great that the reccommendation seems to be a good one. I hope your throat clears up soon.
When we were really little we got lollies at the doctors which we joked gave us holes in our teeth so we had to go to the dentist who gave us a balloon which made us out of breath, so back to the doctors!!! Stupid kids thinking but I remember it clearly!!! My kids get stickers now only when they have blood taken or an injection.
I’m not really sure why, but I found this post really really funny XD Please don’t think I don’t care that you have a sore throat, but the whole bringing another doc. in to see this worst throat infection ever, and your comment about not losing your appetite even when sick (just like me, by the way..dammit) was just really funny. Hope you feel better soon
I had Girl child at the Dr this evening. She has her second bout of tonsilitis in about 3 weeks. The Dr said it was normal for children to get about 5 or 6 colds a year, if that helps you out.
I hope you feel better soon.
Oh at our Dr they put a stamp on the children’t hands.
i don’t know what kids get these days but just wanted to chime in and say ‘keroppi still exists’?! omg! In primary school i loooved that character. pretty sure i had a keroppi pencil case (the hard rectangular type). ::)
Marina gets Kitty-chan and Shou anpanman or kerropi stickers!
Glad the new clinic is shaping up to be better than the last! Is always good to have a nice doctor who can get to know your child.
keroppi finger puppets. Rubber ones. Perfect for piffing at each other… And keroppi stickers at the chemist. I think keroppi is licensed to one of the drug manufacturers (cynic).
In Australia? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. My mum used to buy us a prima juice carton as a treat though. Remember them?
I used to get jellybeans too. Those stickers are way funky though, I wouldn’t have minded one of them!
Get some vitamins into you! It’s generally at about the five-six month mark of bf’ing that it begins to take it’s toll on your body- you will feel a gazillion times netter with some vitamins, maybe some with iron in them too?
I got a sticker or a plastic ring at the dentist, but I don’t remember getting anything at the doctor’s when I was little.
Glad to hear you’ve finally gotten a diagnosis from a doctor who appears to actually care about the wellbeing of his patients. Hope this one works out for you and Noah. (I’m still giggling about you being called —chan and the receptionist correcting, tee hee!)
So happy you found somewhere that suits your needs and personality
With a baby you’ll be spending probably a good amount of time at the Drs over the next long while so I’m sure it’ll be helpful to have a clinic you feel good about.
Sorry about your throat though, that doesn’t sound like much fun at all. Hope the vitamin deficiency is what has been causing all the sickness (because that means you can easily fix the problem). Get well soon!
I have no idea what we got at the Dr’s, I never got sick so I can hardly remember ever going there. XD Probably a lollipop
PS: That’s -SO CUTE- they mistook you for a kid heheheh made me giggle. M**** Laura-chan, we love you!
Hooray for having found a better place – hope that they continue to be so! I don’t remember getting anything at the doctor but I do remember getting SuperTed stickers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperTed) from the dentist. I stuck them on the side of my bunk bed, much to my mum’s annoyance!
So glad you found a doctor that you like. It will make all the difference!
You poor thing – I hope your throat is clearing up. That doesn’t sound like much fun at all… *hugs*
Oh and I used to get jellybeans or lolly pops in Australia when I was a kid!
Sorry to hear you’ve been sick! i’ve had a pretty sore/swollen throat for the past week too, but no other symptoms really. Did start coughing the past couple days though, and lost my voice, but am much better now. Hope you start recovering soon!
When i was a kid i used to just get stickers at the doctor. Same as the dentist.
Just went through the whole white spotted refusing to get well then turned into a double ear infection thing so deepest sympathies. If you need him there’s a good ENT by Funabasi station, south side, called ookawa ENT clinic. He’s on the second floor of that huge mansion called Luna park. After your first visit you can start using this cool reservation system thing online Or by cell phone that let’s you get a number before you get there (just have to arrive before they call the number).
Keroppi is kawaii!
We used to get jelly beans at the doctors – the one lolly I didn’t like!! Dad used to get mine
Hope your throat is feeling better. I’m glad you found a nicer clinic and that the staff is much nicer. We do not have Keroppi here in the US, but I’m a sucker for frogs. I’ve seen some bento boxes online and I’m so tempted to buy them.
Yay for finding a decent Dr… it’s been a constant struggle for us here. Rural GP’s just don’t stick around – even though we are barely rural!
Our old Dr uses to give our kids a lollipop every visit… even offered one to M when he was less than a year old, which I thought was a bit odd. Our new Dr gives stickers which I like much more… but they are not as cute as keroppi
