Dear Noah,
Mama has been slack lately and failed to write up letters for you for your seventh month and eight month birthday. That doesn`t mean I don`t love you, it just means that you have been keeping me on my toes and it certainly has been a busy couple of months.
I went back and read your six month letter and couldn`t believe how much has changed since then. You were not crawling back then, you were not pulling yourself up and you had only JUST started eating veggies and fruit where as now you are on 3 solid meals a day- you are eating some fish and meat and crawling and getting into EVERYTHING.
You started crawling when you were about 7 months old and by 8 months were standing up on EVERYTHING and scooting around.
The other big thing is that just before your seven month birthday mama found out she was 8 week pregnant with your little sister or brother, nicknamed edamame-chan. This put a stop to breastfeeding and after a couple of hard days you are now on 4 bottles of soy formula a day (you are allergic to milk protein). It was a bit of a shock to hear you would be having a baby brother or sister but we are now very excited and we hope you will be too when he or she arrives early next March. I am sure you will make a great big brother!!!
Getting you to drink from a bottle was a bit of a struggle so we ended up packing up and going back to Australia for a bit of a trip. You had a blast (and you were on the bottle by day 2) and it was such a nice break for mama too. You saw Nan, Poppy, Uncle Paulie and Auntie Gem and many more friends. You were pretty good on the plane rides as well…
You also had your first crawl on the grass…
And your first fish and chip experience (you can`t see it but there is a chippie in your hand!)
Since starting on formula (and eating 3 solid meals a day) you now sleep through the night for 10 hours. This is amazing as I never thought it would happen! But it is true, there is light at the end of the sleep deprived tunnel! The 6am wake up calls are still a bit early for mama and daddy but sometimes you let us sleep in til 7am which is amazing!
Before we went to Australia you had your first ever fever- it came on suddenly overnight and ended with a cough that stuck around for a good 2 weeks. Once the fever subsided though you were pretty much your genki self apart from the cough…
It is hard to remember all the things you have achieved in the last 2.5 months! I guess the main things are crawling, standing up on everything (including pushing toys around the living room while you walk behind them!), pincer grip (picking things up with your forefinger and thumb when eating!), weaning onto a bottle and sleeping through the night!!!
For playgroup (it was after your 8 month birthday though!) recently we went for a bit of a paddle with your friends- you are definitely a water baby.
You still come out with some great expressions and it is even better when we can catch them on camera.
Oh, I almost forgot- you have 2 teeth now! They came in around your seven month birthday and you took pleasure in biting mama while feeding- something I was glad to leave behind. Although in general I miss breastfeeding you- more than I thought I would. It is such a strange feeling.
You are a very chatty little boy- you also seem to have started “sign babbling” lately and have started doing the sign for more and I think it won`t be long until you master waving, clapping and some other signs like milk and yummy! You are very vocal and I am wondering when you will come out with your first word. So far it is all babble lots of babababa, mamama, dadadadad and squeels! It is funny watching you try to “chat” with other babies- as if you think they might understand you better than I do!
You still put yourself down for naps by yourself which is a great relief for me!! I am happy that you are good at self settling. You seem much happier to do it yourself than have someone wait with you or to be held. I sometimes here you wake up overnight but you don`t cry out, you just mumble to yourself a little and then settle back down to sleep.
I love you little man- I am sorry that I was late writing your letters up. I am glad I have kept it up properly til you turned six months old so I might stop soon and just continue with your scrapbook instead. It will be a wonderful memory for you when you are older. This is a bit of a mismatched letter but I hope I have remembered everything.
Love Mama

you’ve done a fantastic job of capturing it all. I wish I had done that. Noah will love reading them when he is older. It is hard to think that in just over 6 months he will be a ‘big brother’. He will have grown up so much by then though and for me I think the hardest thing about finding out I was pregnant so soon after number one was wondering where the love would come from. How could I possible love another baby as much as this? And then the baby arrives and there it is. the love. Your’re doing such a fabulous job Lulu. Noah and edamamechan will be great friends.
(for two years and then they’ll start bloody well fighting – for the love of god Marina, will you not learn that sometimes just not even sitting beside your brother is the safest option)
I have loved reading your letters to Noah each month. I think they are a fantastic idea and I am sure Noah will treasure them when he is older. You are fantastic mum and I always look to you for guidence (as you probably have guessed with all the emails recently… lol)
I have also loved your letters to Noah for my own selfish reasons – they are great way to see what type of things Leilah will be getting up to in the not so distant future… LOL!
If only Leilah liked to self soothe as much as Noah did I would be happy… I wonder how long it is going to be before she will put herself to sleep!!
I would love to see more of your scrapbooking pages btw
Thats one adorable little guy you’ve got there – love the faces!
