The sickies…

We are all sick at the moment. I have mastitis {again!} and a throat infection which has also turned into an ear infection and the boys have a colds and Noah also seems to have a throat infection but I am not sure about Shion. Everyone is miserable! My husband was an ass yesterday morning but made up for it last night {bringing me chocolate home and saying sorry for been an ass!} and then this morning too when he got up with both boys at 5:30, did their breakfast, let me sleep in until after 8 and then organized for Noah to go to spend some time with Jiji {Shun`s dad} and he bought Shion up to me to feed and put down for a nap. Shion and I lazed around in bed until a bit after 9 and then I called for Jiji to bring Noah back just before 10am. Yesterday my fever went over 38 degrees but with meds it seems to have come down. Noah had a HUGE fever last Friday which was before he showed any symptoms of been sick – he just woke up screaming with an almost 40 degree fever.

Shion has just started to get sick so I guess it could go on for awhile. I am really hoping we are all well by the weekend. It is exhausting looking after 2 sick kids when you are not 100% your self.

I have toyed with the idea of starting a new blog. Still keeping this one going too but one for my more education/parenting based posts- like Tot School for example. I like the idea of having it all in one place for the one category {as the organization freak in me would prefer it this way!} but I barely keep this one going most times so it might not be the best idea.

Plus this blog is self-hosted with a domain but I wouldn`t be able to do that with another blog {too expensive at the moment!}.

I know it is my blog and I can do what I like with it but still unsure.

You may have noticed my Some Days series has gone AWOL. I just couldn`t keep it up- I had good intentions to keep doing it but I have missed a couple of weeks now. I might bring it back sometime or it might just be a random post here and there- of course anyone can keep doing it if they wish.

Anyway I had meant to write in the last post that I appreciated all the comments on my “A million ways” post. Nice to know that I am not alone…

  1. I had mastitis once and it was absolutely horrible! Can’t really imagine what’s it’s like with almost all down in your house too :( hope you get well soon!

I think it’s a nice idea to compile all your education posts in one blog. It is “neater” in a way and easier for you to track I guess. My mum has a blog for the bub’s home informal lessons or edu stuff she does with her too :) or if you have a name in mind just create the new blog first to “book” the URL link. It might get taken up otherwise!

    Ai @ Sakura Haruka

    • Thanks Ai Sakura! The mastitis has cleared up a lot- still on antibiotics but hopefully will be back to 100% soon. I have a really sore throat still though :-{

  2. I was so lucky to not get mastitis… my aunt had it for a few weeks and i know it was terrible for her!
I’m just crossing my fingers and hoping no-one around here gets sick in the next 10 days – we have a wedding coming up you know!

    • Oh LUCKY! Hopefully you won`t get it in the future either if you bf more kids. I am worried that when I wean Shion I will probably get it again…

Crossing fingers for you and hoping no one gets sick too!! Best of luck for the wedding-weee, how exciting!

  3. Nooh

It is aweful when your sick and the kids are sick too. I have never had mastitis but it sounds like a b*t*h! I hope you and the boys are on the mend soon!
I know how you love to have everything organized and in order, but I think keeping up with two blogs would be a bit too much. Its nice to have it mixed in with the other posts about what you are doing in your lives, and see what the kids were learning at that time. And like you said, it’s hard enough finding the time to post in one blog, right!!?

    • Yes- you guys have all been sick too yeah?! Hope you are now ALL on the improve and no more sickness anytime soon. I keep umming and ahhing about the other blog BUT I know I wouldn`t have enough time to devote to it really or I would try and put in a lot of time but other areas of my life would suffer, ie, caring for the boys/craft time for me so it might not be worth it.

  4. Nay

Being sick and having to look after little ones is hard but it must be so much worse when they are sick and needy as well. Hopefully you all start feeling better soon. I never had mastitis (although that is what the doctor in Australia diagnosed) but a blocked duct and that was painful enough! I feel for you. There are so many advantages to breastfeeding but yeah mastitis is definitely not one of them!

I agree with what Nooh said about the 2 different blogs and just wanted to add that I like your blog exactly how it is :) That, and I have enough trouble remembering to comment on all the blogs I read now :P LOL

    • Thanks Nay. Hopefully this will be the last time for me with mastitis. I HOPE!!!!!!

Yeah, like I said to Nooh I am not sure I would have time to devote to it or it would take over my life or I would have to stop this one and I really don`t want to do that. I mean when I have more time later on maybe not now Probably not.

  5. Oh, Mastitis is the worst! I’m glad to hear you’re able to stay in bed and rest at least some of the time, though. I hope it passes quickly!

On the separate blogs, I don’t know about you, but I know I could never keep up with more than one and I would have two half arsed efforts. Having specific days to post on a particular topic, or organizing a blog into categories are more workable options for me personally … something I’m working on.

P.S. Your follow button for twitter is broken – just sos you know! :)

    • It seems I am on the improve on the mastitis front. Thankfully! Still sore throat and tiredness but it might be related to throat infection and/or cold that the boys have got.

I am thinking a similar thing with two blogs. I might just need to reorganize this one better- although that is 6 plus years of entries there!!! Ultimately I would love to have just 5-7 categories with one or two of them related to early childhood education and mothering. Something to think about I guess.

I think if I did start another blog it would take precious time away from another aspect of my life and I don`t want to mess up the balance. I spend enough of my “free” time online already I suppose.

Thanks for commenting! I am glad to have found your blog too!!

ps: My follow button for twitter seems to be working for me? I will get a friend to test it out though as well. My twitter name is @sakuralulu but I don`t tweet very much at the moment. I go through tweeting frenzies but then step back.

  6. I HOPE YOU GUYS ALL FEEL BETTER!
I recommend keeping your tot school blog and personal posts together, so people like me can read it all at once. I know, I HATE IT TOO cause I’m such an organized freak.. but it really is a good way to keep all visitors instead of having to direct people in different places. Just “tag” or “categorize” all the lessons together so if someone wants to see them all they can.. just my two cents ! XO
    Megan

    • Yes, for now I have pretty much decided to do this. I need to go through an re-categorize/tag my posts though- almost 7 years of posts in total though! ARGH! I would love to have only 7 or so categories – I think I have 22 or so at the moment because I tag posts about the boys plus other things and I am not consistent. When I started blogging I never thought I would still be doing it 7 years later, let alone 7 years at the same place!

Thanks for your other comment too!

  7. What a dedicated mom you are to get Noah and Shion like books at such young age. I did not like books when I was younger and I am still struggling to finish books I started. I normally take 3 months to finish a novel of 300 pages. ;P

Probably, I can defend myself by saying I read the dailies and blogs most of the time and of course FB status updates and articles as well. ;P Other times, I spend my time taking flights to a new place and wander on my feet. ;DD

I like your blog as I feel that I’m discovering life in Japan through you especially now that you have a Japanese family in Japan. Keep up the good work and take care! Hope Japan is recovering well after the quake.

    • Thanks for stopping by AkiraSabine! My friend`s brother uses the stage name Akira {which is actually his official middle name- their mum is Japanese} – it is a great name! Oh he is a musician btw.

Haha, I read so much more ONLINE now than paperbooks- I read books everyday but mainly to the kids. I need to get back into reading more for myself as well. I used to read 2-3 novels a week pre-kids. Even more when I was younger! I much preffered to read than do my homework or school assignments.

Look forward to checking out your blog!

  8. Yeap, that’s where my name AkiraSabine comes from.

‘Akira’ for my interest in Nihongo.
‘Sabine’ for my interest in Deutsch.
    ;P

Wow, you REALLY have been reading a lot!!
Keep it up and I shall catch up far from behind. ;P

Feel free to drop by at my blog whenever you’re free.
I reckon that would be when the boys are taking their nap in the afternoon.
