Sitting in a cafe and reading or writing while listening to music or even studying while drinking a coffee is something I did quite a bit of pre-kids.
I love the simple joy it gives me {now} but totally under appreciated it before I had my children. Whenever I have to go to work on the weekends I try to leave a little early so that I have a little time to sit and read or write or listen to music while enjoying a coffee. Sometimes I just people watch. People watching is another of life`s simple pleasures.
On Saturday I went to Myoden to teach. A student who I meet usually just once a month basically for a chat. We meet in a cafe so I often go early and order my coffee first and take 20-30 minutes to myself. With this student in particular it really is just like having coffee and a chat with a friend except I correct her English grammar, throw in the occasional Japanese word and try to speak a little slower than I usually would. Anyone that knows me in real life can attribute to the fact I talk 100 miles and hour!!! Her level is high and we have a lot in common- she has a 3 year old, works outside the home full-time and they are currently designing and building their house. I started meeting with her when I was 4 or 5 months pregnant with Noah and at the time she had a 6 month old so I used to go to her house and even after Noah was born I would just take him with me. When she returned to work we started to meet on Saturday`s and I would leave Noah & Shion at home with Shun since it was just a 1 hour lesson and I was home before Shion`s next feed.
Leaving for work 10-15 minutes early gives me such a great re-charge. To have that special 20-30 minute to myself to do what I want is awesome. I totally took this type of thing for granted before I had kids! Plus- getting out without my kids, even for work, means I come home so excited to see them!
What is one of your simple pleasures? Do you appreciate it more now that you used to?

Mmm, sitting in a cafe alone… Peace and quiet and no kids to clean, control… Ahhh…
Going shopping ALONE… ah, the joy!
I do love just sitting in a cafe, people watching.
Right now it’s when I go running every night with a friend or it’s the rare times both of my kids are napping.
