After a huge weekend with work, a birthday party and guests staying with us until Monday night {Hi Nay & fam!} Noah woke a couple hours after I put him to bed on Monday and wanted a drink and to go to the toilet and he felt quite hot. When he woke again a couple hours later I took his temperature, gave him some more water and Shun went to sleep on the floor in his room.
Tuesday morning fever was still hanging around despite some panadol in the early am and was sitting around 40.1 degrees. Off to the pead, then the ENT and the poor mite was diagnosed with his first middle ear infection. The trip the ENT was horrific….not sure if it was supposed to go like that but it took me and three nurses to hold Noah down so that the doctor could look in his ears, nose and mouth. We just went to the closest ENT to our pead`s office but I think I will be looking for another one close by as this guy had the bedside manner of a gnat. Got a prescription to fill then back to the paed`s with the letter and another prescription and finally we were heading home.
To be honest I nearly didn`t take him to the doctors yesterday because despite the fever he ate a good breakfast, had no obvious symptoms except a bit of a runny nose and was running around like a mad man. Yesterday afternoon though it seemed to hit him like a ton of bricks. He didn`t want to walk by himself, he just wanted to lay around and his fever started climbing again. Overnight it reached 41.6 degrees and I had no idea that kids fevers could even go that high. He was still drinking water and lucid so we kept him at home and when I spoke to the clinic again today they said that I should only bring him back in if I was really concerned or if he developed a rash, had a seizure or stopped taking fluids so we will see how he goes tonight. I am hoping the antibiotics, fever meds and ear drops are doing their thing.
This morning he was still kind of out of it and very lethargic but after a midday nap he perked up a bit and requested painting so here he is painting with a cooling pad on his head since his fever had started to rise again after nap despite going back down to about 38.7 late morning.
I am hoping tonight will be a better and more comfortable night for us all.

Hope he is feeling better soon. The first few years seem to be be full of these types of situations.Never get used to them but things do get better, and it is us mums who end up with the emotional scars and not the kids who remember nothing, lol.
bugger!! Sounds like a crap doctor experience. I’ve had to hold a child down before – Shou, for a flu jab and it was just horrible. I felt so bad but knew it had to be done. So well done and big hugs. Hope he’s feeling better soon. I’ve heard ear infections can linger so hope the drugs you got were good too.

Poor little sausage. I had no idea fevers could go that high. Sounds like you handled it calmly.
